Why India is not making use of solar energy, besides being available in abundance.?

Answer:
India is the leading market for renewable energy in the world. But solar panels are quite expensive and solar panel efficiency isn't that great either. Another problem is storage of energy because solar energy unlike hydro-energy isn't continuous hence to provide continuous supply excess energy has to be stored and a large no. of batteries is needed in order to store it. But given n these facts India is still the leading market for renewable energy in THE WORLD, not U.S., not China.Bharat electronics (B'lore) has a solar panel research division. Hope they can come up with better technology. M.I.T students are conducting feasibility studies on using Algae and bacteria to replace silicon panels.
India is one of the major user of solar energy... most of the traffic lights and water heating in hotels are powered with solar energy...
bcos solar panels are costly...an they require maintance.and manufacturing silicon panels too is costly
Because the silicon material needed is too costly and not available here. It's mainly found in "silicon valley". Moreover, we have to import technology due to bad research here, thats an added cost too.
Why aren't you? Same reason.
becoz of the financial problem as India is a developing country not a deveoped country....
solar cells manufacturing in india is scarce and is very costly
the energy stored per panel is very low and space required for solar panel is very large .cost of space is much much costlier than the cost of alternate electricity.
for example in a pilot project in maharastra a whole village was alooted to install solar panels roughly a lac panels with battery cells worth several crores and electricity generated was meagre 100-120 KW ,that too varies with intensity of sun light .
the cost of maintenance of solar panel and especially batteries is very high,
replacement cost owing to low life of batteries (roughly 2 years only) is very very expensive
basically there are many reasons but some of the major problems are
1.india is the second populated country in all over world.
in india pepole don't have enough place to live means for example in bombay peoples are living in chal's and a solar system needs a open place where it can absorb a direct sunlight and in these kind of places it is not possible to addopt a solar system or solar energy

2.because of changes in weather
our politician have lack of vision & will
The govt. just doesent care and people are unaware as well as not ready to venture into something new. PV being costly is just an excuse the govt. subsidises chemical fertilizers then it can give subsidy to these too.
Solar energy is the least of problems in India. You need to do something about the killing of innocent unborn girls and the maiming and killing of young girls. It is an atrocity.
The construction of solar energy plant requires a high-cost.And another main reason is we cannot get enough energy from a solar plant for our rapidly growing energy needs.Because it cannot supply a large amount of energy for a large area continously for a long time. And the solar cells should be replaced periodically which would be of high cost.
thus, our country uses the conventional source of energy.
India is a vast country and solar power is a very good option for Indians but the problem is Cost and infrastructure availability. Initial cost of installing solar power unit is very high and maintainance personals are not available every where. These two factors are mostly responsible for lack of solar power use. But, now it is all changing very fast with support from government and I am sure India will become largest user of Solar power very soon.
it is not too easy to use solar energy for elecrtric appliances because it is quite costly . but it can be used for dat-to-day for such as water heaters
SOALR ENERGY IS NOT AN EFFICIENT FORM OF RESOURCE BECAUSE OF THE FOLLOWING REASONS.IT HAS CERTAIN LIMITATIONS ALSO SUCH AS:
1. THE SOLAR ENERGY IS AVAILABLE IN DIFFUSED FORM ON THE EARTH.
2. IT TAKES HOURS TO COOK FOOD IN SOLAR COOKER OR TO HEAT WATER IN SOLAR WATER HEATER .THIS MAKES IT INCONVENIENT TO USE.
3. THE SOLAR ENERGY HAS A HIGHER INITIAL COST.
4.ONE HAS TO CHANGE DIRECTION AS PER THE CHANGE OF DIRECTION OF SUN.
india is avast country and to implement a project large will and infrastructure is required.they are trying to use the solar energy.it is being used at telephone exchanges etc and india is on the way.
