Can you use the recycling logo without obtaining permission or is it copyright?

Answer:
The 3-arrow Möbius loop recycling logo is in the public domain and is not regulated by law.

You can use it any way you want. You can even slap it on something that has nothing to do with recycling. You want to put it on the front of a t-shirt or on a bumper sticker that you sell? That's OK and you don't have to get permission from anyone to do so. You want to make the logo a character in an animated porn video? Fair game!

However, if you use the logo on a product in a way that implies the product is made of recyled material when it is in fact not, then that would likely be considered a deceptive business practice and fall within the realm of consumer protection laws.
you can use it as long as the copyright has expired..
it depends on what you are using it for.
if its a
-project/assignment with a boss
-hanging in public parks or on signs
-basicly those kinds of things
you do not have to obtain one
however, if you plan to use it for
-videos
-books/magaziens
then yes, you must get permission.

good luck!
hope i helped
You cannot say it is "your" design. But it is so easy to make a similar design it doesn't matter. Three objects in a triangular pattern representing the three methods of conserving is just as good.
According to the New York freecycle group, the logo is copyrighted. "Copyright © 2003-2006 The Freecycle Network (Freecycle.org) All rights reserved. Freecycle and the Freecycle logo are trademarks of The Freecycle Network in the United States and/or other countries."
Its a public awareness logo so you can definitely use it without any permission.
