Is there an environmentally friendly alternative to Glade cans?
Answer:
You can use a light ring. If you haven't heard of them, they are a ceramic or metal ring that sits on top of a lightbulb. You put a few drops of any essential oil on the ring, then every time the light is turned on, it heats up releasing the fragrance. The longer the light is on, the more fragrance there is. They are very nice. No drifting mist to get on you or the floor, no propellant, and no can to throw away.
Always has been. Potpourri.
Yes, strike a match and let it burn for a while. Or light a candle. Both work very well without the sting of spray from a can.
Or put bread in the toaster and burn it (grin) that works fine, too.
Another trick is to take the skin of an orange or lemon and break it to release the juices.
I would recommend these scented crystal potpourri things...I don't remember what they're called but I find them at "hippie shops" all the time. I've seen them in the mall before too but at much higher prices. You just set a bowl of them around and the absorb the bad orders while giving off pleasant smells instead of just masking the odors like glade.
Two things that I use:
1) a small unglazed ceramic dish with 10 - 20 drops of essential oils sprinkled on it. This dish sits on the back of my toilet. When the oil evaporates, you just add more.
2) a small oil evaporator (mine is carved stone, tea light candle on the bottom with a dish suspended over it) Light the candle and put some water in the dish. Add 5 to 10 drops of essential oils. As the water warms, the scent will release. You have to remember to blow out the candle when the water is steaming or it will evaporate and the oil will burn.
Open the window. :)
