So if all cars turned to hybrid or some alternate fuel, will we not have manual cars anymore?

I hate automatics.. They're no fun to drive :(

Answer:
From what I have seen you seem to be right, which makes no sense, because manual transmissions are more efficient and offer better gas mileage, so if you know how to drive one, it just makes sense to get one.

Hopefully this doesn't happen, as more and more Americans don't know how to drive a standard transmission. I'm right there with you. I hate automatics. They usually cost more, are slower, weigh more, require more maintenance, get worse gas mileage, and are very expensive to replace when they go bad. Why would anybody want an automatic? Plus if your battery is ever dead, you can pop the clutch to start it.

I can see it now. You will be driving a ethanol powered, hybrid, stick shift cherry red pontiac solstice in the future. Am I close?
no, manual transmissions will always be available. even when cars can fly like in the movies.
The manual transmission is not solely for fuel savings. It's less expensive than an automatic transmission for one, and it let's the driver decide what gear they want to be in at any given time. In reality, a manual transmission does not offer substantial fuel savings over modern automatic transmissions. So yes, manual's will always be around, even in an all hybrid vehicle world.
probably not because the CVT or continuous variable transmission are more fuel efficient
but i bet they will still make manual shift cars for car enthusiasts
Not at all. Manuals would still be an option.

I would imagine that the system would work the same with a manual transmission as well as an automatic by simply shutting down the engine when it comes to a complete stop (such as with the Honda Civic Hybrid).
I don't think that the type of fuel, or power plant will mean the demise of the manual transmission (I hope).
Through all of my time as a licensed driver, I have owned a manual transmission car. Thankfully they are still available in several models, but I hope it wont get to the point that the manual is the option, and the automatic becomes standard equipment.
