What forms of energy do you use in your home? Do you think this will change in the next 20 years?
Answer:
Unless some major breakthrough is made in the scientific world we won't be changing how we power our homes. All alternative sources are much more expensive.
I have 400 square feet of hot water solar collectors which assist in heating my home and hot water.
I also use propane for additional heating and cooking and electricity for many other things just like most Americans.
The solar system was very expensive and no normal person would spend the kind of money I did, it will take me 15 years to recover the investment, maybe 10 as energy prices increase. The average American changes homes every 7 years.
Just electricity. If we could use methane..We could light Las Vegas for free!
We have a gas boosted solar hot water system. i hope to see more solar panels in the future.
Same form we have utilized for the past 20 years, electricity with gas back up.
Unless environmentists change their stance, compromise, congress compress -- no drastic change will be made.
It takes approximately 10 years for an energy plant to be built. That does NOT include the preliminaries -- such as design, passing EPA standards, getting permits, endless scrunity.
Each step is difficult. I do not see a change within 20 years maybe 30 but not 20 -- too much red tape to be taken care of first.
In my home I use electricity.
I doubt that will change.
I might have a source other than the local power company though.
I think solar will be huge in the next 20 years. Every day they are increasing the efficiency of the panels and that means less roof space = more power.
If everyone would conserve first and then get solar for their homes, its really not too expensive because the money you save in energy cost can be used to pay downt he panels on a home equity loan.
There is also an option to rent solar panels now.
Solar is definently the future.
the main form i use in my home is electricity , i have changed my appliances to those energy star ones except the washer thus far , changed lightbulbs to thos cfl , i use gas only for drying clothes and cooking , and of course hte hot water heater , during the day my tvs dont get turned on till late after noon early evening , i wash full loads of clothes in cold water and line dry when weather permits
in the next 20 years i think homes will still have electricity like they do now bu t i c less pepole using it because the price of electricity is gonna go sky high , and the job pay will barely cut the mustard like it does now , thats why alot of places are hirng new employees full time (target ) etc and cutting back longer working employees hours . so kno w in 20 years i don tthink its gonna xhang e unless all newer built homes from this day forward are built with soalr power panels and other means of creating electric
Electricity. To heat/cool our home we use the electricity to run a geothermal system. It cost under $40 a month to heat or cool. We have a normal home and live in Michigan so we do get hot and cold, not just moderate.
In the upcoming years though things will probaly change I don't think we will notice anything beyond the steady increase in efficency thats been going on for the last 50 or 60 years.
I'm using solar now .Its good but the biggest problem is storing the electricity . I build my own panels and using 30 12 volt battery's with 110 volt inverters . refrigeration take allot of energy washing machine take allot to .Heating there's no way i could heat with solar maybe if i got 200 more battery's and build allot more panels i could pull it off but i just don't have the room and i could never see an apartment building running off solar unless they come up with a supper compact battery .
I'm thinking cold fusion is the way to go . Allot of people say cold fusion is impossible same thing they said about putting man on the moon or the cell phone and just about every thing man has accomplished . Check this out email him ask anything . Basically he just wants people to be aware of his patent . Cant hurt to ask questions http://www.first-molecule.com
For lighting, laundry, and cleaning mostly electricity!
For heating, we use firewood exclusively, It is much cheaper, because we have long cold winters here in the mountains!
I don't think it will change much, unless the government decides to start heating the folks home for free with electricity!
I don't foresee that happening any time soon, with our money grubbing congress!
Well seeing how every day most people energy increases then I'm sure in 20 years from now our energy sourses will increase by 100%.
