Electric depends on your requirements. There are several models similar to golf carts that can only got 25 mph maximum, which isn't fast enough for most people's needs. The ZAP Xebra can go 40 mph and 40 miles per charge

There's also the Tesla Roadster which goes very fast and over 200 miles per charge, but costs $92,000
