Helping the environment in a big way can be costly are there anyways where I could make a big impact?
Answer:
One way that you could would be to take a trip to Honduras, or Haiti, or the Dominican Republic. Show them how to make and use a solar oven for most of their cooking. It would reduce the daily deforestation that they have. If you could import several sliding glass doors, you can easily make stoves that feed an entire village most days with no fuel usage at all.
Alternatively, work on bringing white leds to market sooner. They use only 1/10 the energy of an incandecent bulb and last 20,000 hours. That's right ten years a bulb. They will be here soon. So I would actively seek out a company with plans to introduce them to the market. Then you could get rich and save the world and have extra cash to help out others in need.

Actually a friend is a auto mechanic and he just converted over a car for a customer. Going from gas to recycled oil. It cost under $1000 including instillation. I cant remember but it was a complete kit and he just installed it. (was pretty cool)The thing is you have to be in a populated area for there to be plenty of sources for getting used oil…
