Will a 4 watt solar panel charge a 12 volt battery while we are camping?
Answer:
That all depends on what is your drain on the battery, I would classify a 4 watt as a trickle charger, only good if you are using a 2nd generation led. 4 example a compact flourescent light draws on average about 14 watts or so, so your 4 watt solar panel would have to get 100% effeciency for 3.5 hrs for every hour you burned the flourescent light, you do the math. I use a 45 watt system with led's and it is more than powerful enough for my needs, the link below has a compete, backup/camping setup that would be a good starter set.
A four watt solar panel will provide a trickle charge, but it will take a long time to charge a dead battery. Four watts at 12 volts equates to a current of 0.333 amperes. So, it will take 120 hours of charging in bright sunlight to bring to full charge a 40 ampere hour battery.
According to the eBay ad it works on charging a VW battery... which is a 12 volt battery... so I'm going out on a limb here and I'm sayin' YEAH, It will work !
yes but very slowly! And only if there's diodes allowing current into battery only and not out otherwise battery will drain rather than be charged
yes however you need to know how much you are drawing from it at the same time.
if you charge only during the day and consume at night it is ok
a full charge will run a power inverter with 600 wats all night safely
one light and one fan
