Whats the secret to keeping an uncluttered work-station?
Answer:
Find a place for everything that comes across your desk. Either 1.) read it and toss it, 2.) act on it and toss it or file it away or 3.) file it away for future reference. Don't let the incoming paperwork pile up, deal with it as it comes in.it hurts less than dealing with a pile you've been ignoring for weeks or months.
I take documents that I need to keep and I scan them and store them in my email for future reference and throw out the paper. I also send myself emails if I have any handwritten notes to myself that I want to refer to in the future. My organizational goal is to have no paper files.
I use a free tool you can get on the internet called X-1 that indexes all of your email so you can instantly search it.
I set up all of my bills so I pay them electronically. Again, any paper relating to the bills are scanned and kept in an organized fashion by vendor in a financial section in my email. I make sure I get a backup of my email at least once a month on an external hard drive. At least once every six months I burn a copy of my email to a DVD and file it away.
I keep the desk clear of little trinkets from travels and little toys and other things that distract me from getting work done.
When you find out, let me know! I cant move here!
