Answer:
China. I believe US causes 25% of the greenhouse gases while China generates 8% more than the US BUT thats because China has like 4 times the people as US AND they are being used as the worlds "factory" where goods are being produced especially the US so overall US is STILL the biggest polluter seeing how they can produce much greenhouse gases with that type of population.

Its a fact that a higher standard of living produces more pollution. The deciding factor is which country is the most efficient i.e. they help the most people from the pollution they create.
The USA is fairly clean for the standard of living we create, but we could do more. Compared to China we are super clean. China spews pollutants and improves the standard of living for a fraction of the people that the US does for the same amount of energy use. Simple emission controls on autos and factories would make them much cleaner. Europe is the cleanest for the amount of people that are helped by their energy use.
Depends on how you define pollution. If you're just talking about CO2, then China and USA are neck-and-neck for most total carbon dioxide emissions. Both are around 24% of the world's total emissions. Per capita the US is the worst, with the exception of a few islands (mainly US territories) and middle eastern countries.
The US and China are neck and neck for greenhouse gases. But China has way more people. Score that one against the US.

But China is way worse for toxic pollution, like hydrocarbons, organochlorine compounds, and particulates. They're really killing some of their people in some industrial cities.

Overall, China is worst.
the more appropriate measure must be pollution emitted percapita.USA is way ahead in that measure.
U.S. probably now, but if China continues to modernize that quickly without doing something about the pollution then we'll have a huge problem.
