What is the difference between the metal from a pop(soda) can tab, and the rest of the can?

Curious at what the difference is between the metal from the pop or soda can tab, and the rest of the can? Why do people collect just the tab, and do not use the rest of the can?

Answer:
both are made of aluminum but tabs are easier to transport than the used can.

None
The tabs take up less room to collect but still have enough metal in them to justify recycling them. And they generally are not dirty and do not attract insects.

My son's school band director collected over 28,000 of the tabs to give to Ronald McDonald House, just from the band kids, in 1 school year. That was enough for a 3 night stay at the Ronald McDonald House for a family in need. They also collect the sample size toiletries like soap, toothpaste, and shampoos to donate to the "House".
