What are three items whose production could be limited/eliminated to reduce the effects of global warming?
styrofoam plates, cups, etc. can you imagine if dunkin donuts' styrofoam coffee cups were replaced by paper ones? even that would eliminate SO much waste.
gas guzzling vehicles like escalade limos, suvs, etc.
especially space vehicles such as Atlantis which needed to take a 1.7 million dollar detour which used tons of fuel and added a lot of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.
what are your ideas?
Answer:
1. Jet airlines. These are one of the biggest causes of greenhouse gases because of the quantity of fuel burnt and the fact it is injected straight into the upper troposphere. Face it, do we really need to get anywhere on the planet in hours.
2. Gas guzzling cars and trucks
3. People, 6.5 billion people are far too many for the planet to support.
paper napkins, cereals that are bagged AND boxed, printer paper
Eliminate coal, gas and oil production. Then comes food, electricity, fertilizer, running water....
It's a huge problem. The hopeful say little things add up but your talking about a whole lot of little things.
1. DVDs of The Inconvenient Truth
2. Al Gore's house
3. Al Gore's waistline
Bottled water (I'm fine with tap), algae/weed killer (we need them to balance carbon output, not just with photosynthesis, but with maintaining root systems/not allowing soil to oxidize & decaying weeds to add more CO2), any (everyday use) product that has to be shipped a great distance.
Unfortunately to have any significant reduction in Global Warming we must cut carbon dioxide production worldwide by 90% or more.
The small saving that we get from hybrid cars, more recycling, turning out the lights and banning plastics are too small and insignificant to make any real difference.
That means we must ban the use of fossil fuels worldwide.
To accomplish that would mean that:
First we must ban all motorized transportation. That is all automobiles, motorcycles, motorscooters, trucks, buses, trains, planes, and shipping worldwide.
Next we must ban the generation of electricity by the use of fossil fuel. That would eliminate most electricity production.
Next we must eliminate all manufacturing, steelmaking, and cement making.
Next we must ban the heating of all homes, offices and factories even when it is below zero degrees outside.
Next we must ban the cooking of all food, and the heating of all water.
We must learn to bathe in coold water.
Next we must develop the political will and the military ability to enforce this ban worldwide.
We can't even handle Iraq.
Iraq is nothing compared to the problems that we would face if we tried to enforce a ban on the use of fossil fuels worldwide.
Essentially Global Warming and the attendant Climate Change are unavoidable.
1 nuclear weapons
2 poisonous gases (tear-nerve)
3 hummers
4 all cars that get less than 30mpg
5 limted edition and special edition dvd and cds (only print one)
6 put taxes on companies that use to much plastic (like soda companies)
Of course the gases and fumes that humans produce from cars, oil spills in the ocean (which leads to flesh eating bacteria and other serious issues) and toxic wastes being burned in some cases will help if they are stopped. Other things like eliminating trash (which probably wont stop people from throwing items outside of their car windows) and keeping beach and lake areas watched so tourist wont dump their trash there. And coming up with new ways to better the world. most of you have probably seen this video on tv but if you really pay attention to it, it has some really good ideas, not just the car :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no9e2sluz...
There are basically two kinds of people in the world. Those who produce, and those who live off of those who produce.
What right do those who have none of the conveniences that the producers provided have to dictate or limit them?
I'm not saying that it is wrong to express what should be mutual desires, but the tone of your words is adversarial and only leads towards creating, well...adversaries. In order to have an open and productive conversation with those whose behavior you wish to change, then you are going to have to listen to their understanding of the current situation. I have seen almost ZERO evidence of reaching a compatible solution.
And the shuttle Atlantis detour has NOT used tons of fuel or added greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Shuttles glide from re-entry to landing. It WILL eventually use that fuel once they ferry it back to Florida.
first if you are at the computer now and it is night check how many rooms have the light on and nobody is in the room, buy local, it has been said that in Germany( but could be said of many countries) a tub of yogurt from cow to your table has traveled 3000km! Recycle, repair, don't throw away if still good pass it to somebody else or donate to charity. Anything that stops the mountain of waste created by our wild consumption. Bring your bag when shopping, buy bulk because it has to start somewhere by someone and you are the someone and somewhere is where you are!
Start killing whales! Those fat b@$tards are eating up all of the plankton. Plankton is responsible for converting half of the world's CO2 into oxygen. Is it a coincidence that global warming started shortly after we started banning whaling?
!. Reduce the proliferation of foolish ideas
2. Reducing the thermal activity of the earth (volcanos) by exploiting geo-thermic energy and giving it to the iraqis so they will be nice to us
3. Talking less about this made-up issue, thus releasing less carbon from our wide-open mouths.
i would think the most obvious answer is:
1) coal
2) oil
3) natural gas
if we slow or eliminate the use of fossil fuels we would finaly be doing something against global warmig
1) China
2) India
3) Mexico
