The greenhouse effect, discovered by Joseph Fourier in 1829 and first investigated quantitatively by Svante Arrhenius in 1896, is the process in which the emission of infrared radiation by the atmosphere warms a planet's surface. The name comes from an analogy with the warming of air inside a greenhouse compared to the air outside the greenhouse. The Earth's average surface temperature is about 20-30°C warmer than it would be without the greenhouse effect [1]. In addition to the Earth, Mars and especially Venus have greenhouse effects.
Some gases ("greenhouse gases") let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving. That's the "greenhouse effect", and it's mostly a natural thing, mostly caused by water vapor.
Man is making excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. That causes the delicate natural balance to go out of whack and the Earth warms. That's global warming.
It won't be a Hollywood style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.
Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.

Greenhouse effect has been created due to ecess of Co2 related gases in the environment. These gases has ability to suck the heat form the environment and maintain this heat for long duration. This result into rising the overall temp.
The name is gived as in similar way temp. is increased in polar area and this is maintained in a glass chambers which are known as Glass-House. Glass also have ability to suck the heat from envirnoment / sun rays (it collect the heat come with sun rays but do not release it back and maintain the heat)
In the cool countries like japan , the plants are grown in glass
rooms because the glass observe heat and give sunlight to plants.The pollution , effect this type of house.
You should see the documentary that our former vice president made, Al Gore. It will explain alot and also inform you of the things that are happening around the world because of it. It's called a inconvient truth, or something to that effect. the blockbuster store or library will know what your asking for. it really is a good dvd to see.
