Nature makes oil from trash so why not learn how she does it?

If trash was made into oil it would not be a problem now-would it?

Answer:
Not only could it solve energy problems, it could provide us a source from which to manufacture plastics, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides. We get a myriad of products from oil besides fuel. I don't think it's a crazy idea...we can get rid of landfills, to boot!

we know how nature makes oil out of dead things.

It takes about 500,000 years.

Go ahead and open your business making oil from trash. It may be a while before you make any money...
We know how Nature makes oil. But it takes 50 million years.
Nature doesn't make oil from trash. Nature makes oil from sunlight. Plants use the light to make sugars, starches, vegetable oil and fiber. Animals eat plants and make more oil (animal fat). Bacteria breaks down complex molecules into carbon compounds, including hydrocarbons. Burial under tons of sediment cooks and compresses that goo and concentrates it into oil and natural gas.

Now you know how "she does it".

It's not a problem at all, it's impossible.
As everyone said it takes millions of years to make the oil. However I know they are making diamons now by using huge presses that simulat the pressure of the earths crust and basically make diamonds from coal in a matter of a few months to a year. This same technology could be used to make oil, but then we still run into a delima:
1: the oil will still get burned and release toxins into the atmosphere.
2: alot of energy will be used to turn the trash into oil and this may not make it economically feasible.
Actually, producing fuels from trash is exactly where we are heading. We have had the technology for years. Its called gasification and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The political will and the economics are just now turning in favour of this and we will dump less, become less dependent on the oil rich countries and overall will pollute less. Shell already use F-T synthesis to produce additives for their V-power diesel (not available in the UK but widespread elsewhere in Europe). They currently make liquid fuel from gas in so-called GtL production and we are now heading into BtL or biomass to liquid where we can use trash and other organis material as our feedstock to produce next generation fuels.
