How to get my community to recycle?

How do I get my small community to start a recycling program?
Thanks! =]

Answer:
Write a letter to the local council or government or whatever. Get recycling brochures and stuff to promote it and hand them out to people and put some info on a notice board. Write a letter to the schools and they should start. But whatever you do u will make a difference.

Good Luck.
You first should go to the schools and tell people truly good it is to recycle. The kids will spread the news to their families and it could branch off to be bigger than you thought. Also providing some sort of information on how to get the recycling bins
Hope that I helped and we need to teach people that recycling is a really small thing but it helps sooo much!!
In my neighborhood you need a gun. Peace
if ur community is small then u can keep a small competition n a prize for the best cleansed n neatest house ...as it all intially begins in the house later spreads to the surrounding .schools, hospitals and other public places can be used for propogating the event
Push the elected leaders (mayor, city supervisor, board of aldermen, etc.) into starting the program. I would suggest having the general costs involved, pros and cons, and as much community support (maybe by petition) as you can when you contact them so they can begin to make an informed decision. This will not be an easy task as there are lots of proponents of the "status quo".

If your research proves useful, the officials will have to decide if their budgets will absorb the costs (it costs more to recycle) of the program. This begins the waiting game. Each municipality will have their own rules how the "fiscal pie" gets sliced. The municipality will probably have to do engineering studies to perform the actual program design and implementation.

If they won't start the program, get people elected during the next election that support your position. That still doesn't mean that the money for the program will be available, but the officials will be working for their constituents.

Anyway you try this, it won't be "easy". Good luck and take care.
Try to organize a rubbish day. Where you try to get as many people as possible to collect all the rubbish from their homes or even pick up the litter, then offer some form of

prize money for the people who collect the most.

Another good way to get small communities to become active is to target schools, brownies, scouts etc. People tend to get active when their children are involved.

Organize awareness meetings in a local hall, nothing much, but effective enough.

Show the effects of pollution on the environment and what the world will be like without recycling!
Well there are things you can do to help reduce the amount of harm you are causing the enviroment, you can do this by offsetting your carbon on websites such as; www.co2debt.com . On these sites you are able to prevent climate change by funding ethical reforestation projects. I personally found that www.co2debt.com was the best site for this because of their strong relationships with other non-profit organizations. So, I sugjest telling your community about this site so that they could do something to stop their negative effect on the enviroment.
