Do you recycle? My recycle company keeps leaving things in my bin.?
Answer:
Check with your city to find out what types of materials they recycle. Different materials are identified by the recycling code found on the products. The recycling code is a number inside the recycling symbol. That way you will know what they take and what they won't and they won't be things left in you bin.
Good luck!
yes. that happened 2 me once, but i just broke what it was down and then they took it.
If it's cardboard break it up into small pieces.
I do not recycle even though i think i should.
What things, maybe they don't except those items, Like quart oil containers are the same plastic as soda bottles, but the carting company don't want them.
Check with the rules of recycling pamphlet. If you don't have one, call them they'll send you one.
If you are recycling plastics, most companies only accept containers with the "resin" codes of 1 and 2. 'Plastic' is a generic name given to products made with many different resins and all plastics have a resin code on the bottom of the container-a number placed in a triangle--numbers range from 1-9 with 1,2 and 5 being the most common for food containers, but 5 is usually not recycled.
I always recycle. Things are left in my bin occasionally but I just leave them for next time they come around.
Sometimes it makes me wonder when that happens to me too. Someone hired as a "garbage man" enforcing the policies of a waste management company working for the municipality I pay taxes to to collect my garbage and recycleables is leaving things behind just to prove they're an a-hole that belongs to a union. Most times it's just punative and lazy.
Each time they do it I call my councellor and rip him a new one until the waste management company calls or sends a rep to explain why they didn't do their jobs.
You know what some of the reasons were?
"We only lift up to 25 kgs, the bag was too heavy." (I weighed it after, it weighed just under 27 kgs... like 5 lbs makes a big difference. I am supposed to weigh my garbage? Am I supposed to send 2 plastic bags to landfill instead of one? That one was a union work to rule action.
"We cannot take paper in a plastic bag (sometimes they are delivered that way when it is raining, if I dont' read it, it goes straight into the bin)" ... so while a 5 ton truck idles beside them, instead of just dumping the paper out of the plastic bag they leave the bag AND the paper behind. A few hours later, after another call from the councellor, they are back at my door to pick up what they left behind ... at their own expense.
The only way you will know for sure is to complain to the person who wants you to vote for them again next time. Demand that they explain to you in person, in detail and at their expense, exactly how recycleables are to be presented at the curb. In fact, make them demonstrate it. If you comply and your recycleables are refused in future, then they better have a really good explanation.
If public education is not in the contract with the municipality, demand it!
This link is an example of the hoops people have to jump through in in one city in Ontario where a relative of mine lives. I know of cities that don't even require you to sort your garbage, they do it at an automated sorting plant. And they are still profitable.
Really, I can understand the point of sorting your garbage, I once worked in the Environment Protection Dept of a large utility and that was part of the Dept's responsibility, but sometimes it is ridiculous to the point of sublime.
Check with your recyclers and see what types things they actually accept. Some cities only accept certain numbers on plastic items, which can be found usually on the bottom in a recycle symbol. My city only accepts 1's and 6's, and they don't accept cardboard. Therefore, I have to save all my cardboard and bring it to a bin that does take it. If you're aren't sure, throw it in the bin and if they don't take it then you know it isn't recyclable.
