We live in a world that has been built upon material things such as oil, coal, pharmaceutical companies, if you know what I mean! Over the past decades, our lives have become dependent on oil as a whole. Everything that exists today has been built using oil in some way to function, or is tied to something that was created in the past relative to oil. I'm sure that if we really wanted to, we could develop cold fusion, using water for many of the same things, it would make much more sense, more efficient, environmentally friendly, cheaper, and on and on. The problem with that is that too many people have MONEY to lose. Wars are fought over oil. Its all about POWER! I could really care less though I am personally affected; how ironic!
Because modern industrialized agriculture depends on oil to raise crops and transport them to the populace.
Without oil, or a crash course in sustainable individual farming, Billions of people will starve to death. Not to mention the wars, riots, and civil unrest they will cause while they do.
Well if you don't eat, wear clothes, travel, need medicine, blah blah blah, but the real reason it would be bad if oil runs out is the people who want oil the most have lots of guns to kill people for the last of it, and destroy the enviroment to get at the last of it.
To grow food?
To transport food to your house?
To make clean water to drink and transport it to your house?
To process waste water (sewage) so it doesn't actually cause disease?
I suppose you live in a hut without electricity but you posted using a computer. Do you use anything that is wrapped in plastic or is made from plastic? Wrapping things in plastic (from oil) has reduced disease from foods so much it is ridiculous.
The truth is ANYTHING you do wouldn't occur without oil.
Question for you: Were you serious about this?

From running farm equipment to making fertilizer, without oil we'd have severe food shortages.
Well, we have got HIV figured out. We know how to get it, and therefore how to prevent it.
We need oil to provide energy.
automobile oil can be dispensed with. oil can be used to create new forms of power so it will no longer be needed solar power collecters for one the materials for these would be oil based but once built oil would not be needed so mutch. wind power would be usefull as well. electric cars are the key with transport or cities could go back to street cars ad trolleys some already use them or could use sky trains. could cut back on the purchase of computers and dvd's rent instead.

Go burn a little fuel some day, try out karting or dirtbiking, and you will see why oil is important for having fun
Until there is another source of fuel, the country would be screwed. With no oil, there would be a depression and famine that would make 1929 look like a joke.
