Why do the pages fall out of paperback books when they are read on hot, sandy beaches?

Is it the heat drying out the glue, the erosive effect of the sand or what? Does it just happen to me or is it a common occurence?

Answer:
The heat melts the glue that is holding the pages to the backing.
Cheap glue.

A good hardbound book would hold up much better. :)
