Does anyone have any ideas for Environmental Club?

I am in my senior year at high school , and I am the president of the Environmental Club. I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas that we could do as projects. We have very limited resources due to our whore of a principal( she isnt open to anything). Also since we are in the middle of a rather large city we do not have many "outdoor" areas at our school. But any ideas are welcome. I want really want to bring in new students. We lost a lot and we did absolutely nothing last year due to the incompetence of our previous president.

Also any fundraising ideas! We are going to Canada at the end of the year for a 2 week trek. We need to raise a lot of money.

Recycling program

Make and Sell SPIRIT SPUDS (cut potatoes into 1"x 1" squares, dry them, paint them with acrylic paint, thread them through a long string, with each potato separated by a school colored bead, then sell them for $5 a piece during Spirit Week (or whenever).

Find out if any other organizations do anything for Earth Day. Piggyback on them.

Just a few ideas..

Well here are a few ideas. You said you live in a large city, so these would be excellent ideas to do on a larger scale.

1. Recyling cans- depending on the location either $0.05 a can or the weight. Collect at school, home, & businesses = EASY way to make money.

2. Recycle ink cartridges. Below is a website that you should visit. (in the Sources list)

3. ANYTHING that deals with the environment. A bake sale at lunch that sells cookies in the shape of the planet, a tree, etc.

Well I have a few ideas for you man:
Of course you could plant trees, but its so cliche and probably over your budget unless you can grow it from a seedling.

Another idea would be to do things to your school which would make it use less energy (caulk and seal conditioned rooms, create shading elements, etc..).

One last Idea would be to take donations from people to build passive hot water heating systems(not hard) to give to the poor. This way you help poor people by reducing their bills (and energy use), and use other peoples donations to buy the materials you need.

I think your club sounds great--I wish there was a envronmental club when I ws in HS! A huge fundraiser in my school is actually a bake sale--have everyone in the club make a bunch of baked goods and then sell them at lunch time for .50 to a 1.00 each..
You could sell environmental t-shirts. or even have a plant sale. go to a local plant place and you could probably get a discount or even a donations you buy a lot--- and then raise the price and sell them after school one day--around a holiday would be the best. You could sell roses on valentines day too...

Projects--- you can always plant trees and flowers at local parks or even at your school (some kiss up points for the "whore") --- or set up a table at a local event to get your cause heard--hand out brochures or schedules of your events to allow public to attend and help out. Your club could also design some sort of energy saving brouchure to hand out... you could sell those special light bulbs...
