I know timber makes up for 5% of Russia's export earnings but I need to know what oil makes up for Russia's export earnings in percentage. I need to be able to compare the two through export earnings. Like, "timber makes up for 5% of Russia's export earnings while oil makes up for ??% of Russia's export earnings. If you know the answer, please tell me. Thanks!
Answer:
A quote: "Oil, natural gas, metals, and timber account for more than 80% of exports".
Let's see if we can figure it out from the CIA website. They export 7 million barrels a day. That is...about 2,500 million, or 2.5 billion barrels a year. Oil was at 62 bucks a barrel yesterday, so that is about 120 billion dollars over the course of a year. Their total exports were at 317 billion last year. So that puts their oil exports at about 33% which sounds about right since oil is listed as their biggest export. Oil is a huge part of the russian economy.
