Thinking to donate to environmental organization. Any suggestion?
Answer:
LIving Lands & Waters, East Moline, Ill
Low overhead, direct impact on the conservation of the Mississippi River. If you are really serious, don't donate to some national firm that will eat up the donation in overhead. Spend wisely.

If you have ever wondered if you could make a difference (as an individual), then listen and read the story of Chad Pregracke. As a teenager, he started a one-man campaign to clean up the Mississippi River near his home. Going out in his small boat every day, he would remove yards of debris from the river. As he grew older, word spread of his work and he was able to grow from a single boat to a large organization dedicated to the remediation of the rivers.
Ducks Unlimited.
They use money from hunting stamps and donations to buy up farmland and restore it to wetlands. Their efforts have brought the duck (and other wildlife) populations up to pre-1900 levels.
The Nature Conservancy or Audubon Society. The NC puts land away that will remain wild. And the AS develops programs to restore bird populations. Both are good causes.
