Which is better for the enviroment?
Answer:
Use your air conditioner.
There are many ways to help the environment. Do the ones that work for you. Don't make yourself miserable.
If nights are cooler, and you have more than one window, use the fan to move cooler air in at night. Be sure the window has a good shade to reflect sunlight during the day.
And then use the air conditioner as needed.
Try going outside! The AC probably uses more electricity!
You inconsiderate so and so how could you consider either. You either care about the planet or you don't. Dying would be a very ecologically sound thing to do. You would cease to produce any more CO2,decay not withstanding. If you really believe that the greenhouse gas etc is killing the planet it is the least you could do.
Depends a lot on the humidity where you are.
If you can devise some cross-ventilation, bringing air in one window and sending it out another it might help. If your humidity's low enough you can add evaporation as an addendum.
But in the end, studying a mental discipline to allow you to accept ambient temperatures and increase your comfort zone might be the best long-term answer.
well if you have a big fan then that will go up on your energy bill. and if you have air condtioning in your house, that will make your energy bill go up also. so a big fan could start a fire if you have it on high while your sleeping one day.so I recomend that you use air conditioning if your willing to pay. But you know what i do every day...? I have a fan. I put it on low every night and I put the air conditioning on To 74, cold.
Hope every thing turns out ok. FromJupiter_123
ok maybe you should put in a fan that is used on baterys or you could just use it less and sit infront of it. it will give you more air. plus you are doing the rigth thing.
They have solar powered fans with solar cells attach to them put them in the window and your all set
dear confused boy if China is putting on line two power stations per week why would you cook yourself do not be conned by the hype stay cool calculate how much you use by comparison to Al gore when al Gore gets his power use down to yours then reduce your power as he decreases his further we can call it the GorCO2declinograph, something we can all use as a base measure.
Air conditioners, no matter how small, uses a lot more energy than conventional fans. Their compressors consumes the most.
I suggest a homemade air cooler, made of copper coils, a syrofoam ice box, hose, a small water or aquarium pump.
The fan and water pump combined will still use far less energy than the a/c.
Its very easy to make, i've made one myself.
Here's the site. http://www.eng.uwaterloo.ca/~gmilburn/ac...
Enjoy!
I'd say, use neither -- but what do I know -- I live in the UK where the sun hardly ever comes out at all...
To work out which uses more electricity, multiply the power rating in kilowatts by the number of hours you'd use it for.
This will give the kilowatt/hours for each -- just see which is less.
Using batteries is much worse than mains (outlet) power -- it takes much more energy to make the batteries than you get out of them. Plus other resources.
Another point if you do run an air conditioner is to make sure your building is well-insulated, and that you've minimised draughts, heating by the sun and so on -- this will minimise the amount of heat you have to get rid of. Keep the windows shut, of course.
the a/c is better b/c a fan only evaporates sweat but an a/c makes u cooler. epc. in the summer
Those small air conditioners are pretty efficient, it usually says on the box the estimated running cost. Don't have a heat stroke trying to save electricity. Ask yourself how much electricity those machines at the hospital will use lol.
Plant a tree and live under THAT during hot weather.
The AC probably uses more electricity but the way your using it would save energy.
Have you thought about putting in a ceiling fan? They provide great room circulation and don't use as much energy as an air conditioner.
