I think for medical applications such as glaucoma and people with cancer or terminal disease it should be legal.
Though I would not be a pothead, I think marijuana is a medicinal herb God has provided for us and a tranquilizer to booth. The laws against this herb have done more harm to Americas families then the Spanish Inquisition done to Europe.
I've seen the problem of drug dependence, and I am clearly against it.
slew can talk about drug dependence being his reason for being against decriminalization of pot, but you can sure bet he has partied with the boys with a couple brewskies here and there. alcohol is also a drug that causes dependency.
but recently British scientist have made the claim that alcohol is far more damaging to you, both psychologically, and physically that pot.

I am in the middle on this. I have never done it before, but I think if it is legalized and controlled like alcohol, like age limits, usage limits, there would be a big decrease in crime.

pot should be legalized , if pot were legalized it wouldn't be thought of as a commodity, thereefore ther wouldn't be such an interest in smoking pot , because it wouldn't be considered rebellious if it were legal and less and less people would smoke it

Pot should be illegal cause its addicting and bad for you. If it was legal everybody probably smoke pot and our world population would go down and we all get sick and die.
No because if it has the effects that it does on the brain..then where would that leave the population of America if this became legalized. Kids of all ages would have easy access to this illegal drug..and for what..for it to eat away at their developing brain cells. It has been abused by man. I've seen two people in my life that didn't really ruin their lives because of marijuana, but they didn't live up to their potential. It could have just as easily been booze that they had problems with.

My wife has had rheumatoid arthritis since she was 30 and pot is the only drug that gives her some comfort, so for me definitely legalize it.
Yes, but only in its natural state with its normal level of THC. Since it was criminalised, the plant has evolved dramatically. Growers have given the plant optimum conditions in which to thrive (ie. 24 hours of artificial light which the plant LOVES) and it's THC levels have become amazingly high.
I have never smoked it - so for my personal purposes - I could care less.
However, it is not as harmful as alcohol, cigs, crack, etc.
It is a natural substance that has been smoked by even the Queen of England (I am not sure which one). It does not cause cancer and people do not die from it. It is harmful to the lungs because it is usually smoked unfiltered and tar enters the lungs, but this is not cancer causing.
It has a lot of medicinal qualities. It helps cancer patients, glaucoma patients, reduced pain, increases the appetite (great for cancer patients). . .
I do not know how I really feel. I have done research on it because someone I love smokes it.
They claim it makes people lazy. I do not know if this is true. But I do know that the person I love does not live up to his full potential (at least in my eyes). He is extremely smart and creative, but virtually unemployed - works for himself and plays drums for several bands and an entertainment company. However, he has not had an easy life - this could be the cause of his "laziness" - I think he is depressed. I want to clarify - he is not really lazy - he is always out and about - he works several days a week. He never sits around the house. I just think that he has the potential to be more successful - but that is the materialistic side of me speaking - I want him to make more money so we can get married and have children. I also want him to have more ambitiion around the house - fixing things etc... Is this a result of the pot?
He is planning on pursuing a goal. To fulfill this, he needs regular drug testing. He has not smoked for 3 days and will be tested for at least 7-10 months. It will be interesting to see if and how he changes over this time period.

Then the major farming and tobacco corporations can add it to their list of products they produce and market it after adding a lot of filler and making it way weaker.
The government can tax the corporations for the profit, tax the people for buying it and make additional revenue.
Law Enforcement can start prosecuting people for selling without the tax permits, since those are so expensive, and importing from outside the country will stop. Gangs will have one less money making activity.
You'll end up paying $15 bucks for a pack of joints that are governmentally legislated and monitored for how much THC it contains - not as much as you are used to.
Folks - legalizing pot means EVERYBODY can GROW it. Corporations will move in and then will fight to protect the profitability of their new product. That product will be grown cheaper, faster, with more chemicals and subject to genetic manipulation.
Decide what you want - really good illegal pot or really cheap, sub-par legal pot. You can't have both.
And no, I don't smoke or use pot. I have too many other things to do than sit around being stoned.
