Do you buy new?
Answer:
It isnt about how much energy is wasted on recycling, it is about renewable resources. At the rate we are selling metals to Japan the amount of metal, for example, is actually in NEED to be recycled!
As for hybrid car companies, most dealers make hybrid car parts in the same plants that make the other parts. We have been recycling metal for car parts for decades, so i dont know what you have been reading!
On another note, hybrid cars are a good idea, the only problem is, we are capable of getting much better gas mileage out of our fuel-injected systems than the car companies are letting on about. The truth is that the oil companies tell the oil companies what to produce MPG-wise. How do I know this? I know people who aquired cars that got three times the proper gas mileage, and still have the cars. They had to buy other cars to bop around town in, and they use these cars for trips.
What decides the gas mileage is basically the size of the engine and a little device called a CCRM, a constant control relay module. It regulates the flow of gas to the injectors.
Sooo, look not to the hybrid cars as the source of the problem, look to the oil companies as the source of the overall problem..
Hey it isn't dumb I work at recycling place and if you don't mind I am going to cancel you away from yahoo
Humph
thats actually not true at all...There is no "Garbage crisis".
the EPA reports that actual landfill capacity is increasing. dump operators are getting more efficient at compacting garbage tighter, and to make it decompose faster. some landfill owners actually compete for trash- they can put grass on top of it and make ski slopes and golf courses!
look at this for a REALISTIC view of trash- all of Americas garbage for the next 500 YEARS would fit into 1 landfill 100 yards high. and it wouldn't even be the size of one of Ted Turner's ranches.
so while recycling is wise, don't believe the "Buried in garbage" scare generated by the media.
I don't know the cost and I am not going to even guess. I think the concern here should be what are we going to do with all the old batteries left over in the up coming years.
How many times does it have to be said? "If you are going to climb up on a soapbox, get your facts straight!"
How much energy does it take to produce a non-hybrid car?
If you have been putting garbage in your mind regarding the footprint of a Hummer vs a Prius, you are bound to spew garbage out your "keyboard". Get the HONEST facts and you'll see how silly your question sounds.
REDUCE, Reuse and Recycle ... at least get that much right!
Somewhere in a small town in America, a village is missing its idiot! Hey, conservative man! How much Michael Savage must I listen to be as stoopid as you?!!
We have been using recycled material for parts for DECADES!!
Would you like a yellow tractor to pull your head out of your ***??!!
Speaking for myself, I'm not above buying "second-hand" products where it makes sense to do so. I am still using a reel-type lawn mower that I bought at a local Hope Rescue Mission store - about ten years ago! That was $10 well spent.
