So do you believe in Global Warming? And how should this topic be discussed in today's world?
Answer:
Science has proven (as much as science is ever proven) that global warming is real and mostly caused by us. The most important thing is for to look at what the scientists say, not what people on the Internet (including me) say.
Until about 50 years ago climate was determined by natural things, like changes in the sun. About 1960 our rapidly increasing production of greenhouse gases, mostly from burning fossil fuels, overwhelmed nature.

Most all of the skeptics arguments are answered here:

Discussions in the real world are going pretty good. The skeptics have their opportunities. Perhaps too much in proportion to their (small) numbers, but that's freedom for you. Pieces like the New Scientist cite above address the skeptics, and have convinced even rock solid conservatives:
"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives Tuesday to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming".
Discussions on the Internet are often just about political biases, and less useful. That's always true about discussions on the Internet. Giving everybody a voice means that many of the voices will be ignorant. That's also freedom for you.

Yes I believe we are causing a great potion of global warming and it should be discussed and acted on with urgency!!
Oh GOD... another Global warming question... how novel.!
YES I believe in Global Warming... along with 99.8 PERCENT of the WORLD'S SCIENTIEST and YES I believe that it has been cause my the hand of man.
Why not believe? It may not happen dramatically before our eyes like it was lightning, but it should be taken cared of. There have been a long record from a dedicated researcher years before this became public, so why not believe? The records show as good proof.
I remember some rather scientifically challenged person said to me that he finds global warming to be B.S. because the world is too big. Oh my. Hearing that was worst than listening to my real life biology classmates - who had bad grades.
I do think that we are contributing to global warming, but even if we weren't, what ever happened to not being wasteful?
We KNOW that petroleum is a limited resource (we have about 75 to 100 years left of oil in the world at the rate of usage today) why not conserve so that we can use it for a longer period of time.
Deforestation of the world's rain forests- Scientist have also stated that there are plants in the rain forests that might help in the elimination of major diseases, such as cancer, aids, Parkinson's, etc.. Do we really want to ruin our opportunity to wipe these diseases off the face of the earth?
Economically- I don't know about you all, but I work really hard for my money, and while they are probably lovely people, I have no desire to give any more money to Florida Power & Light or Shell Oil than I need to. That's why when I bought my car the first thing I asked is what the gas milage was, and am adamant about turning off lights.
I think that it's important to remember that we are blessed to have so much in this country, and we need to say no to this disposable society that we are living in today.
Peace
While it seems that there is now more antedotal evidence for global warming, I remain skeptical. Even if global warming is a fact, and we stopped all carbon emmissions right now, the same science that claims global warming is real also says that stopping CO emmissions right now, it would take 700 years to reverse the effects of any 'global warming' (so much for doing anything about it).
I think that most industrialized nations are doing FAR more than the developing countries, and that is where the real paradox of global warming comes in. Communist and socialist countries like China and India are FAR worse polluters and CO emmitters than ANY country in the west (North America or Europe). And what is being done about China and India? Nothing! And what about the loggers that are burning the rain forest of the Amazon? What is being done to stop that? Very little if anything at all. Yet these two problems are far worse than anything problems the west is causing. Yet the Green-Peace and the evironmental crowd refuses to go after these worse offenders. Why? Because they can't.
The bottom line on Global Warming and other environmental issues - if the G7 (or G8) governments do not engage at a government to government level with these real bad CO emmitting governments - nothing effective can be done about global warming. The various environmental NGOs have yet to show me that they can do ANYTHING about these issues - other than generate publicity and take money from like-minded environmental leftists.
What no one is saying in this discourse is what really is at stake - our capitalistic, free enterprise way of life. While I drive a very small car, and I am not a conspicuous consumer, that is by my personal choice. If someone works hard, becomes successful, and ends up creating jobs and a lot of money for him or her self - and they want to spend it on themselves - that is their right to do so. What I resent is the environmental activists telling me what I can and can't buy or can or can't drive in the name of 'global warming'. What they want to do is to create a socialistic form of government where 'they - the enlightened ones' can tell us simpletons what to do, what to buy, and what to think.
Guess what? It's been tried before. In the Soviet Union, in China, in Eastern Europe, and in parts of the Middle East and Africa. Call it communism, socialism, ditatorships, etc. NONE of them work. So give me a free market representative democracy with checks and balences. This is our best defense against global warming.
I just love claims like Miguel's that 99.8% of the worlds scientists agree that global warming is real. The fun comes when you learn that they can't even agree on whether its caused by burning fossil fuel or by eating meat from animals that fart. Or whether it started with the industrial revolution when we started burning so much coal, or with the postwar boom in automobile ownership and the building of interstate highways. But they're certain its happening!
no,its an myth that one liberal made up and spreaded it around.
Sister read the thousands of answers to this same question ,if you realy wanted to know you would have checked there first with out wasting 5 points.
It gets realy tedious to answer the same thing a thousand times
Everybody with half a brain by now realizes the global warming is happening ,
too many people have died already
too much land has been lost
too many crops destroyed .
The disputes are about ,
if we can do something about it ?
and how much man is at fault ?
And how fast and how much the effects will be
MAN MADE CLIMATIC CHANGES
Man is responsible for much climate change it cannot be whitewashed by Global warming
If Global warming now also want to change the climate it has to stand in line
because it is not the only one,
I went to the jungles of Oaxaca and discussed with the Natives the mountain before us ,Mostly deforrested ,scarred by landslides and dotted with madly steep corn patches (which only produced for 3 years ),and devoid of clouds.
They all agreed that the days were hotter ,there was less rain ,And the river was dry part of the year.
When they were boys ,the river was bigger and ran all year around, the mountain was always covered in clouds with daily rains .And the days were more bearable .
Their actions in the desperate plight to feed their enormous families of avarage 12 kids per family ,often much more ,had destroyed their home ground with indisputable climate changes.
They had changed their climate. This happens all over Mexico
In Africa I have seen lush wooded lands change into dessert within a few years by large invading comunities ,who devoured the trees for building and firewood ending up in a dessert with out water
and with a hot sun under which no new plantation was possible. The people had changed their climate, this happens all over Africa.
In Northern china two mayor dessert are merging and 900 vilages are buried under the dust ,thousands of refugee farmers who had changed their climate ,by intensive agressive agriculture are fleeing for their lives,
This happens all over the world .it happened in the 20ties in the USA has everybody forgotton that ,was this not a climate change ?
Granted the climatic changes are local ,but effects neighboring areas ,there is less rainfall, rivers dry up ,
Compare todays situation with what the place used to look like .
And understand how People have totaly changed their Environment and subsequently their climate
.
Add all of this together, from all over the globe, and calculate the results .Collectively because there is so much of it ,the global precipitation is affected,(the sweet water production) and so is the climate .
------------------------------...
Like Ghengas Kahn changed the climate when he burned all the forests and filled the wells with sand ,Like the Phoenicians changed the climate of lebanon to build the trading fleet .Like the Spanish climate was changed by using their forest to build the Armada ,
So are we today changing the climate by massive deforestation, agressive corporate farming (using chemicals),overgrazing ,overpumping deep subteranean waters ,ignorence and impartiality
And read up what America is planning with the insane master plan for Ethanol production

Global warming.carbon emisions ,polution ,sunspots ,solar flares, hairsprays , and skeptics are the rasberries on top
Seems as if America is trying to compete with Global warming
I wonder who will win.?
but who ever it is ,
the rest of the world looses.
We are in trouble, and if we can do something that will make it less ,we should try to do it .
And there are many things that we can improve on
so that ,we can at least last as long as posible .
