Did Al Gore do anything during his term as VP to stop global warming?

My question is why when he was in power didn't he bring this issue to the forefront. We knew about global warming then.

Answer:
He and Boss Bubba got gasolines prices so low everyone went out and bought SUVs. But after the Cadillac driving, retired bluehairs in Florida cost him the White House by voting for Pat Buchanan by mistake, he took it out on everyone by telling us we were causing the oceans to rise by enjoying an economic climate he created.
He wrote a book that you had to buy, to make him more money, so he could buy more Occidental Petroleum stock. Ask the unabomber about it, he had a copy of "Earth in the Balance' dogeared, and highlighted, when he was arrested.
The scientific data wasn't so good then. A great many scientists had real doubts. It just wasn't the right time.

James Hansen testified before Congress in 1988 about global warming. He was completely (and I do mean completely) ignored.

Al Gore wrote a book "Earth in the Balance" which discussed global warming in 1992. It was also ignored. Based on the book I'm sure he tried to do something about global warming, found that it was politically impossible at that time, and looked for other things that were possible to do.

You can't move an issue like this in the US government if you don't have widespread backing from the scientific community and the public. Now that we have those, it is possible to make progress, if we elect people with guts.
Haha, about all that Gore did was to spout off steam about it and add to those greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. I'm a senior undergraduate meteorology major, and I can tell you that there is no real met major or professor on this campus that believes his documentary has any truth to it. That documentary lost all the scientific credibility the minute he won the Oscar for it.
He didn't do anything for global warming then, and he sure isn't doing anything for it now. Most of this is my opinion, so you might want to wait for more answers if you are skeptical of my thoughts on that subject.
Al Gore did nothing except sit and gain weight in his position.

VP's don't usually have a platform in which to bring issues to the forefront, that is the President's job. That goes for ALL VPs, First Ladies actually could do more to bring things to the fore front than a VP

However, Al Gore did succeed in embarassing himself during those 8 years, not forming a way to obtain the White House for himself.
Al Gore was the only politician that did say anything, so let's all shoot him and stick our heads back in the sand?

Call Al a hypocrite or evil, or whatever, but recognize that he did say something, and he's the only one that is that you see in politics that is making a stand.

Study the issues, there are problems in our world.

There is a water problem, global warming is happening and there's a chance we're causing it.

Above all there is an oil shortage, and that won't go away.
He tried to pass environmental bills but they were all rejected by parliament, he says that in an inconvenient truth
He got Bill Clinton to sign the Kyoto Treaty. Unfortunately he never got Clinton to send it to the Senate (to face a certain death) and the Senate has been unwilling to take it upon themselves to vote on ratification. You see the President's signature is pointless in the US, the Senate must ratify treaties for them to become binding.

But it's GWB that won't sign a treaty that has already been signed. Blame Bush for Kyoto, but the Senate could ratify it any time they want. They just don't want to.

He just wants you to buy his carbon offsets so you can be "good."
Scott, you're almost all the way there. I believe the Senate preemptively voted 95-0 AGAINST ratification of Kyoto. And Al didn't go it alone to convince Bill - a lot of help came from their buddies in Enron.
Nope, nada, zilch, nil.

Global fear mongering is his way back to power.
