Is it global warming or is it something else?

Do you beleive that the weather we are having around the world is down to global warming? Or do you think it's down to something else?

I have read a theory that points to solar activity, I can't find the url (I will post it if / when I do). Anyway the basis is that of gravity, as we know the moon effects the tides on the planet, so the theory goes that other objects in the galaxy will also exert an influence on the earth. Added to the fact that in the back end of 2012 we are expecting a galaxy allignment (The ancient Mayan civilization predicted this thousands of year ago) It is therefore theoarised that the extra gravity is altering the climate and causing the freak weather.

The only reason why the government fail to mention this is because they can't tax us for it! Can you imagine, Planetry Alignment Tax?

What theories do you believe?

BTW, I agree with looking after the planet and recycling, I just don't believe that it is the cause of the freak weather we are having

Answer:
Global warming in my humble opinion is not man-made, though I do beleive that humans are damaging the planet.

Everything that we know about climate change and global warming is told to us by the government and media! Do people really believe what they say? I for one do not trust either source, all they are bothered about is votes and ratings.

From the research I have carried out I would say that a number of possible theories have merit, however when one volcano emits more Co2 in one eruption than all human beings do in a year then you really do have to question the evidence being presented to us!

As for forces in the galaxy; well I think that we still have a lot to learn about the universe and as such if we are honest we must admit that we really have no clue either way!

My advice, live your life with care and consideration, however do not believe that you are the cause; it is more than likely a huge number of factors and mother nature will sort everything out over time.
i dont believe "not" recycling is causing the weather to reek havoc.its just mother nature working out some kinks. i too recycle as often as possible!!
At last, someone who thinks along the same lines as me. I am all for looking after the planet and recycling, but I too dont believe this is the cause of the freak weather we are having. There has been freak weather like this spanning back over thousands of years and I believe it is more to do with the earth and / or solar activity. I do believe that this is being hyped more for taxing purposes than anything else.

Afterall, look at all the extra money for taxing flights yet it doesn't stop or prevent the same flights from happening, so what does taxing it actually achieve in terms of helping the environment? The planes will fly whether they are full or not wont they?
I definitely believe in global warming. I just don't believe that we have caused it. We have probably exacerbated it to some extent but the fact is that the Earth has gone through untold cycles of warming and cooling in the last few billion years. It is a natural cycle as inevitable as day and night.

Yes - man is making it happen faster - but he is not the root cause.

I could be that the natural cycle is caused by solar activity or by some natural change in gravity but I have no idea about that.
It's El NINO, read up about this.
Good to see that many more people are questioning the theory that CO2 caused by human activity is the cause of global warming. The consensus among scientists is not as strong as it's sometimes made out. But human activity is gradually, but surely depleting valuable resources, and our disregard for our environment, such as neglect of our rivers, marshlands, air, forests, seas, animals, etc., is causing major disruption to nature and ecology. There are many reasons for recycling and respect for our environment even if global warming was not happening.
There was a programme a while back which looked at some old and new research about this very topic. Through digging down deep through all the levels of the earth in different places around the world, and looking at charts and things as far back as we recorded them, they discovered that this planet goes through cycles. And this freaky weather we are having has already happened at least twice before. They believe the earth is on a natural cycle.

Now knowing this can be a good thing, but they said that if the earth is following the natural cycle, then Humans will have to find better means of surviving just as our ancestors did, like through maybe another ice age, and with rising sea levels, may have to live on water.

They said in the past, the people who survived such extreme weather wouldhave been better equiped, and their bodies more able to cope. It was almost said, as if our race was more pampered now!

I think recyling is more to do with stopping the depletion of the worlds resources.

Solar activity was not only discoverd by the Mayan civilisation, but also Aztecs and Egyptions. Plus I think the Greeks also had something about this subject.
Nobody knows what really causes ice ages to start and end, and I think we do not really know what the climate will do in the future. It is plausible that more CO2 in the air will result in a higher average temperature for the world, but absolutely all other detailed predictions are nothing more than guesswork.
Its got nothing to do with Human CO2 (or Cows for that matter).

Its gonna be about TAX TAX TAX and more TAX!
AGW skeptics are getting increasingly desperate, it seems.
How is it that an occurance not expected until 2012 is already haing an effect on our climate? There is a transit in 2012 for Venus -a planet frequently occuring in Mayan calendars. You state that we are expecting an alignment in 2012? Where did you get this info? I suppose you won't provide any info regarding that. Here is the tidal forces excerted on Earth by the Planets, the Moon, and the Sun,with Sun set as '1'.:
Moon 2.21
Sun 1.00
Venus 0.000113
Jupiter 0.0000131
Mars 0.0000023
Mercury 0.0000007
Saturn 0.0000005
Uranus 0.000000001
Neptune 0.000000002
Pluto 0.0000000000001

So, as you see, the effects by the Planets on Earth are negligable in comparison to that of the Sun, and the Moon.
You didn't specify which Planets will be aligned. Mercury and Venus orbits closer to the Sun then Earth, and the other Planets are further away so their gravitational pulls would be opposed.

Your main point seems to be that it is 'something else' then GHG gases that are effecting global warming but it's not a very well supported one.

Edit.
I meant by you.
Here is the formula for calculating gravity:
"The force between any two objects having masses M1 and M2 separated by a distance R is an attraction along the line joining the objects and has a magnitude
F = (G x M1 x M2) / (R x R)

G is the universal gravitational constant which has a value of 6.6732 x 10^-11 newton-meters2/kg2 for all pairs of objects."

As you can see, the distance is in square. This means that the distance greatly influences this orce.
The nearest stars are Alpha centauri, at 4.3 (about 41.5 trillion km) light years away. Their total mass is roughly 2 times that of the Sun which is 1.9891x10^30.

F = (G x M1 x M2) / (R x R)
G = 6.6732 x 10^-11 N x m^2 x kg^-2
M1 = 1.9891x10^30 kg.
M2 = 2x1.9891x10^30 kg.
R = 41,5x10^15 meters.

F = roughly 3.05x10^13 newtons.

*"The Sun exerts a force of ~3.5 x 10^22 newtons on the Earth."
So, due to the distance, the gravitational pull from the other Stars is very small, aligned, or not.

Please correct my calculation if it's wrong. I had a crappy calculator.
Isn't the magnetic pole shift due sometime soon?
think its just rain that wet stuff you know
We have a vast array of extremely powerful monitoring devices looking at and measuring all parts of the solar system and beyond. Were there to be any abnormalities these would have been detected, maybe not small ones but certainly anything that was significant enough to radically alter our climate and atmosphere.

In any event, we know exactly why the planet is warming up. This is something that has been known about for a long time, we can test it, prove it, monitor it and measure it. The reason only remains a mystery to those who don't take the time to read up on it.

We're not expecting a galaxy reallignment in 2012, any atronomer will tell you this and unfortunately, advanced as they were, the Mayans weren't very good with calendars as according to their calendar the world began 6000 years ago, 6 billion years ago is closer so they're out by a factor of a million.

From your username I'm guessing you're in the UK and whilst it's probable that global warming is a contributory factor to the recent adverse flooding it's only one of a series of factors. There will be a report published this Thursday which will explain more but one of the key conclusions of the report will be that 85% of the increase in rainfall in the mid northerly latitudes where the UK lies is attributable to human induced cliamte change.

Due to a not too uncommon event the Jet Stream is currently lying across Wales and Central England, this is drawing a system of depressions in from off the Atlantic bringing with them unusually high levels of rainfall. However, this isn't particularly unusual and whilst it's certainly contributing to the adverse weather it's not the sole cause of it.
It's good you're energised about this and that you're trying hard to seek your own knowledge without immediately jumping on the current CO2 bandwagon.

Please just stay resolute and don't allow the CO2/Gore sheep to undermine you, because they have a moral agenda rather than one they've spent time properly investigating themselves.

There are MANY theories that can be upheld as valid, and several others that are being investigated. Our situation may be just one of these or a combination - no-body can absolutely put their finger on just one and state it's that (not even Gore). Time will tell, and pretty soon we'll have a better idea after we've gathered more hard facts about it all.

The most we can do at the moment is eliminate the theories that are patent BS. so we can say it's certainly not about CO2, which is an agenda of commercialism, greed, power, and public control, that won't 'cure' the planet.

p.s... YES ABSOLUTELY STAY GREEN! We should ALL be Green, and should always have been Green. Save trees. Plant trees. Create don't destroy. Be clean don't pollute.
Scientists are very careful to say that we can't blame any one event -- say, a hurricane, a wildfire or a drought -- on global warming. Climate models are simply not designed to work at that day-to-day level.

What scientists definitely say is that global warming increases the chances of heat waves, more powerful storms, .droughts, etc.

Think of it as rolling loaded dice. We can't say for sure we only rolled double sixes because the dice were loaded -- it'll happen every now and then even with normal dice. But we know we're going to roll double sixes a lot more with the loaded dice. It's the same way with global warming and extreme weather.
Something else,
Namely humans and the way we have treated the world we live in and now mother Earth is fighting back
I don't think we can change what's going on we just have to deal with or move somewhere else on the planet where the weathers less freaky
I like the idea of planetary tax,
i think you could be right with it because they would get the s*** loads of money from flying around the world for all the governments fattening their own pockets
