So did Al Gore really use hypnotic techniques to influence his audience in "An Inconvenient Truth"?
Answer:
Forget Al Gore. He has absolutely nothing to do with the solid science that supports global warming.
The scientific data:

summarized at:

The opinion of the scientific community, less a (very) few skeptics:

Do you think this guy was hypnotized by Al Gore?

I dont know but Hitler did.
his sinister monotone
im sure he tried, but he was already preaching to his soft minded constituents,so it doesnt matter.hypnotism wont work on conservatives.
Not to start any rumours, but somebody looking alot like Al was last seen in the Antarctica trying to threaten the penquins into unnatural sweating for the sequel of his movie.Reportedly the birds held their ground however and the frustrated V.P. headed for a Bic lighter factory in China where he planned to hold talks with officials there trying to reduce the gas emissions from their product. The trip was cut short however when a delegate from the Flat Earth Society successfully warned Al the trip would be unsafe. Word has it he's now kayaking to Hudson Bay,Canada, where he will attempt to begin shaving the polar bears to protect them from the eminent heat wave.
No. He used his charismatic personality. Most people attending the book signing ceremonies or buying the books are not doing so because of the book or what's in it. They are buying it b'cos it's from Gore, their President in the waiting.
No, he used facts and brains, but then, you probably can't relate to that...
I doubt it.
You know the goats that faint when they hear a loud noise?
It's sorta like that. It doesn't take much to win over the gullible.
WOW a good question.
Hypnosis is about overcoming the "critical factor" or a persons ability to analyses and reason. This enables the hypnotist to place suggestions directly into a persons subconscious so that they really believe the content and also that they thought of it themselves. When I last looked at AIT I saw some similarities with the types of inductions used by cults. He even recruited "disciples" to spread the word.
But is it actually hypnosis? I would tend to go with NLP because that is what I would do. NLP doesn't require a trance, simply that the conscious mind is distracted by some device.
Trance is a natural condition for humans and we may be conditioned to use trance to get involved with movies so it really is possible.
Unfortunately the younger a person is the more vulnerable they are to such techniques. I have no trouble hypnotising kids and college students almost instantly; any one can learn to do that.
Certainly many people simply accepted what Al told them to believe and they are near impossible to reason with.
A lot of people have refuted his content but people still accept the conclusions without question.
I wonder what other post hypnotic suggestions he implanted?
I picked up on some NLP techniques in AIT that I wrote about while pointing out some rather questionable content.
I'll paste them in but if you are right I'm only preaching to the converted.
Without re hypnotising the "believers" its like teahing a pig to sing- frustrates the teacher and annoys the pig.
LOL
Al Gore is to be commended on his presentation in “An Inconvenient Truth”.
The success of his presentation is based on a very simple and well-understood phenomenon.
PEOPLE will continue to DOUBT a concept that is presented in a logical manner with a plethora of scientific evidence from reproducible trials.
PEOPLE will BELIEVE something that they have been allowed to assume is true regardless of the facts.
The illusionist simply allows you to assume that the rabbit materialises in the hat. If you assume that the spoon is bent purely by psychic force then you will continue to believe that.
If you don’t examine the trick hoop then you will always believe that the lady was levitated over the table.
The magician simply does the trick without comment, he allows you to assume.
Illusionists and magicians are trained to “allow” the mark to assume that things are true by avoiding the issue of telling them that it is true or false.
Various “presenters” are trained to do the same thing. Another beauty is to talk about something as if it has already happened or is already accepted as true.
Gore asks the marks to IMAGINE what the effects of this or that must be, always compared with something quite unrelated.
Remember that imagination is the logic of the subconscious.
Once you have imagined that these effects are real then the rest follows easily.
Is it the truth?
Do you think that the truth needs to be presented in this way?
Perhaps it is time it was.
This link shows some of the devices used in Gores presentation.

This next link is a fairly technical analysis of the latest information.
In fairness the authors do something similar.

The analysis clearly shows that natural temperature variations have gradually warmed the Earth for over 200 years before CO2 became an issue.
Their data would support an argument that the Greenhouse effect is not responsible for the ongoing warming. But they stop short of saying that.
Now this could be Scientific conservatism. I see it as a deliberate ploy to have the readers make the assumption on their own accord. Much more effective.
Actually it leaves plenty of room for the greenhouse effect.
You may ask; how do I protect myself from this type of spiel?
The answer is easy to give, harder to follow.
If you are looking at a car ignore the “what would I need to offer to have you sign now” bit and go home to think about what you really want.
If the seminar is selling condos or asking you to invest your life’s savings accept the free gifts and run like hell.
If it is a movie become involved and enjoy the fantasy but remember that you cannot fly once you leave the theatre.
In short reset your critical thinking in the clear light of day in the sure knowledge that we can all be fooled.
As Honest Abe said: “You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time – but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.”
"The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt." Bertrand Russell
Where did you hear that one? From the same people who claim 2Pac and Elvis are still alive, and that Paris Hilton was abducted by UFOs?
Hypnotic techniques? Maybe, at least he can. Bush can't.
I think Bob is either Al Whore himself, or a paid shill for the G.W. hysteria movement.
There is no solid science that supports global warming, but there is solid evidence that people are stupid enough to think that if you read it in the news or on the internet that it has to be true. I don't know about Al Gore and hypnotism but I do know the hype puts me to slee........
