Disposal of a mattress?

I have an old mattress that I need to get rid of, but I don't think that Goodwill accepts them. I'm pretty sure that the trash guys won't pick it up off the curb...so...where do I need to take it for disposal?

Answer:
When I bought my new bed, I was given a phone number. Here it is Mattress removal is 1-800-Got-Junk.
Try contacting the city public works department or the company that does your local trash pick up. Most have a service where they'll pick up big things once or twice a year for no charge. They tell you when they'll come by and you leave it out where you usually leave your trash for pick up.
Call stores that sell mattresses and ask them if you can take it there. Your city should have a big trash day-would just like to add I have noticed people on here have big trash day once a year-I can't imagine that!!! We have big trash day twice a month!!
There are a lot of Homeless people in this world.
That's what I would do with it!!

I'm pretty sure that good will accepts them. Or you could sale it in a garage sale. There are also missions like YMCA that house people, usually in downtown areas- they could probably use a mattress. There's no use in throwing it away if it could be used.
Call your waste management company and ask them for advice! They may have a collection site, or periodically have drop off sites.
