If that is true, then it is because the people are sheep. Much like Americans who have let the environmentalists hijack the government. CO2 is taken up instantly by water. In the oceans there is an unlimited buffered sink for absorption of CO2. This is an 'inconvenient truth'. I am sorry to hear that the lunatic enviros have spread into Australia also.
OMG Tim, methane is light wt and tends to rise. Opposite o;f CO2. Cosmic rays breaks down methane in the upper atmosphere. Lightning creates ozone which clears methane. But what about jet fuel burned in the upper atmosphere. Each ton of kerosene burned by jet engines produces 3.6 tons of CO2 and 1.4 tons of water. Water holds more heat back than CO2. Neither has an efficient rapid method of being cleared from the upper atmosphere. Jet engines burn 2000-5000 lbs of fuel per hour. There are thousands of jet planes flying in the upper atmosphere all day and night long over the earth. This may be the main factor in the so called greenhouse effect. Big question---- how does it get to Mars? Its polar ice is melting the same as Earths.

Australia does not tax cow flatulence. As far as I know, it hasn't even been considered. If it was, it would not be with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions. The aim would be to reduce emissions of methane, which is also a greenhouse gas. A more practical policy would be to charge cattle producers a carbon tax based on the expected production of greenhouse gases by their herd.
