Is the reason for global warming really overpopulation?
Answer:
Global Warming has two sources.
One source is natural factors over which we have no control.
The second source is from human activity. Most of that is from carbon dioxide emissions from the burning of fossil fuels.
In order to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions we would need to enforce a ban on the burning of fossil fuels worldwide.
We do not have the political will or the military ability to enforce such a ban.
Let's imagine what would be required to stop the production of carbon dioxide just in the United States.
We would need to shut down all forms of motorized transportation. We would have to ban all automobiles, trucks, buses, trains, planes and shipping.
Next we would need to ban the generation of electricity by the use of fossil fuels.
Next we would need to ban all manufacturing, steelmaking and cementmaking.
Next we would need to ban the cooking of food, the heating and cooling of homes and the heating of water.
How long would you be willing to bathe in cold water?
Not very long I expect.
Even if we reduced the population by half or more we would still have Global Warming caused by the release of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.
Global Warming caused by carbon dioxide emissions is a fact of life.
We must plan how we will adapt to the changes in our climate due to Global Warming and carbon dioxide emissions rather than waste our time pursuing the fantasy and unattainable goal of stopping Global Warming.
No, human activities are at most only slightly a causal factor. as reported in various government studies. And, as a matter of fact, human population is decreasing in most areas, and underpopulation, rather than overpopulation is a serious global issue. Read the original sources and do the research for yourself before drinking the kool-aide.
nope
No. Granted--a growing population tends to increase energy use. But most of the growth in energy use is due to increases in economic activity (e.g. China and India).
In addition, the rate of population growth is falling--and is expected to reach zero in a few decades with a world population well within sustainable levels--IF we change how we produce and use enrgy; you can't sustain the current population and economy with the methods in use today.
We waste about 20-50% of the energy produced inn the US currently (how much depends on what you call waste). But there's no question we could cut energy use considerably without lowering living standards (but it WOULD lower energy costs to consumers). And there is a LOT we can do to produce much of our energy by alternative methods-things we cando now--and with a lot more technology on the way.
Its not the number of people, in other words. Its how we implement technology for those people.
Partially. It's a combination of overpopulation and high demand for fossil fuels. Considering that we have to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% and probably more like 80-90% to avert nasty global warming consequences, overpopulation is not the only problem, but it's certainly one problem.
In the big picture, yes.
More people means more of the things that do contribute to it. Carbon dioxide is more likely to increase due to population and because of the needs, trees will be cut down for them.
Ever been to a stuffed elevator? Notice how warm it is in there, everyone breathing at the same time.
absolutely not and besides ur question has two errors one "global warming" the second overpopulation. global warming is a myth just a ploy to sucker ppl into buying green products. this so called global warming/cooling has been going on since day one. the contribution that man has done is so small its unreal. the earth is far from overpopulated. there are places still on this planet that man has not set foot on. a person could live as far as food goes on one acre of land. u could take every person on the planet and put them in one of the smallest usa states.
The main reason for global warming is the depletion of the ozone layer. The ozone layer reflects the solar radiations (ultraviolet rays) that prevent the Earth from being"fried" by the sun. The overpopulation is a big factor in the sense of consuming the products that causes the depletion of the ozone layer, like aereosols, refrigeration, solvents, etc. The broken ozone layer can regenerate but the daily activity of humans by the overpopulation makes it impossible to heal. The solar radiations are entering more and more causing the global warming.
No. Its caused by the toxic bulls*it that comes out of Al Gores mouth.
In my opinion over population is not the exact reason for global warming. Since mother nature has the capacity to maintain its balance, the fast growth of industries and air pollution related out of it as well as the changing life styles of the people are the main deciding factors. If not controlled at the moment the results are devastating.
It is one of the root causes. If fossil fuel consumption is cut in half and the population continues its same growth rate (which closely matches both the number of vehicles and CO2 production) then within 20-40 yrs (1-2 generations) we'll be in the same situation we are today.
That's pretty much what most of our environmental problems boil down to -- human overpopulation. Who are some of these people answering your question, saying that population is decreasing?-- What kind of crack are they smokin'?! Obviously, they have no science background.
I wouldnt say so. i would say it is an abuse of natural resources. in effect bad planning is leading to destruction of rainforests, natural habitats and a running out of natural resources at alarming rates. especially in america where it is not uncommon to see houses on 5-10 acres and sometimes even as much as 100 acres. this is not good planning. there arent mixed use developments. if we did employ a mixed use philosophy we could fit the same amount of people in about 1/2 the amount of land that we currently occupy. denser housing and clustering of retail and commerical interests allow for less land to be developed while accomodating more people. the amount of people living in this world is not causing global warming, but the way they chose to live and work is causing global warming. the need and use of a car and the massive suburban developments in america cause for improper planning, with tons of waste and destruction. i do hope that we as a country move towards mixed use housing, and incentives for high density, and townhouse development.
I think human overpopulation is definitely a possibility for several reasons, but this of course could only be true if the theory that high atmospheric CO2 concentrations are responsible for warming cycles. Either it's the cause, or it could merely be a symptom that also occurs when some possibly other unknown cause(s) may truly be responsible.
* Deforestation for the ever expanding population growth around the world reduces the terrestrial volume of photosynthesis.
* Pollution caused by humans, especially in our oceans reduces the volume of phytoplankton, which are responsible for up to 90% of the oxygen present in the Earth's atmosphere.
Don“t tell anybody but, is anybody reading this over your shoulder? Tell them to go away, this is for adults only.
Global Warming will wipe out both the overpopulation and the population. Your Problem Is On the Way to Its Final Solution! If I may quote your dear Fuehrer.
Now, to figure out how to survive the end of the human race...
Did you see the 1964 movie Doctor Strangelove?
Peter Sellers presents a way to survive Global Nuclear War, maybe this movie will give you some ideas on how to survive Global Warming and you can have the entire Earth, all to yourself and those you include in your survival plan.
(Achtung! Have you really, really, thought this thing through?)
If you believe that global warming is caused by man-made greenhouse gases, then that is an absolute yes. There's no other way to spin it.
If you don't believe that a warming trend is caused by this, you still have one of the greatest threats to the environment today. And a decrease in the rate of population growth still leads to overpopulation, even though birth rates may be decreasing. The math that is not taken into account: infant mortality is decreasing (more babies surviving); lifespan increase means that more people will be alive at any given time - and the elderly who often are not producing any income and consume a LOT of resources in the form of healthcare.
Our planet has been undergoing changes for as long as it has exited. Solar storms and the rotations of the planets have much more impact on the earths temperature than mankind ever could. Things do not remain constant in our universe and when at times the earth is in closer proximity to the sun it is vulnerable to increased temperatures. People have been worrying about dooms day scenarios forever. If you can make people afraid you can influence them to do what you need just like sheep in a herd. If one runs most will follow. It's the same tactic the fanatical religious types use. It is fact that temperatures are rising but their is no evidence that mankind has any effect on the rise in temperatures. But I still can not stand the corrupt only companies making outrageous amounts of money so what do I care if people blame cars for and people for global warming.
Overpopulation is the primary cause of the world problems .NOT JUST GLOBAL WARMING
Polution, desertification, water shortage ,food shortage ,deforrestation, loss of animal habitat ,you name it
People use and need land,so more and more is being changed to accomodate human growth and devellopment, the necessary flora ,which permits life as we know it, is disappearing.
Eco-systems are being exchanged for desserts , concrete or roads.
An environmentally destructive wave is in motion, caused by expanding populations, and expanding agriculture
An increase in desserts definately affects the global climate and is for a large part responsible for the climate change we are experiencing now
World population has doubled in the last 50 years exceeding the growth of 4 million years (since we became homo sapiens).
To satisfy the growing demand farmers are cultivating unstable lands , too steep or dry to be sustainable.
Mono cultures ,aided by chemicals Exhaust and pollutes the soil .
Adding to this the effects of overgrazing has resulted in large scale desertification.
Each year billions of tons of topsoil are blown or washed away by storms.
Arable lands and their farms are lost all over the globe. Many farmers sons abandon farming and head for the cities. The farmers that are left have to feed some 70 million more people than the year before but with less topsoil.
Northern China is drying up, what once were millions of food producing people, are now hungry refugees ,running for their lives from the all consuming dust storms.
This will have a great effect on world food prices when they start buying at what ever cost, to feed their people.
Over the last half century,
Population growth & rising incomes have tripled world grain demand from 640 million tons to 1,855 million
In the near future the global farming community will not be able to feed every body ,food prices will continue to rise. .
SOLUTIONS
At a meeting in Kopenhagen in 1998 it was suggested to bring the world population down by 60%,one cannot help but wonder at how this would be archieved
Population control in the past and present
War (past .present and future)
Natures way disease(today,past and future)
Manufactured disease(suspected today)
cures that kill(suspected today)
Poisoned consumer goods (suspected today)
making children infertile or gay,by raising the PH level in drinking water or even drinks (suspected today)
Birth control,(in the past the Olmecs women ate yams to make them infertile, today we have several methods but most reach only the educated ,i handed out condoms to an native Mazatecca comunity in Oaxaca ,and the church retrieved them all )
Education on birth control(not enough, again the poor regions are excluded )
laws that limit childbirth per family(China
In these matters I suggest following the money trail.
The same people who are profiting out of causing the problems are profiting from the hysteria
I would have to say that it is cyclic
Follow the money trail
the Mega-Rich are pushing both barrows
Re. overpopulation do you bit, put your nuts in a vice
The Stern report actually used a figure of 15 billion for 2050.
But that was blatantly "overstated".
Even if the green movement succeeds in its continuing quest for racially based genocide of over half of the worlds population. We will still be able to produce massive amounts of pollutants. It will be dispersed over a greater area. Global Warming will not be a problem as there will still be plenty of productivity to go around.
If you believe in GW caused by CO2 concentration, then the answer is yes.
If you believe it is natural, then no.
No.
Cyclical weather.
Also the Sun has a cyclical cooling and heating period aka Sun spots. These directly correspond to the heating and cooling periods on Earth and the other planets in the solar system.
