I think I just found a hedgehog in my friend's MA yard.?
I don't think that hedgehogs are native around here, but what should I do with it?
Answer:
Is it a baby, or injured? If so call your local animal protection charity for guidance. If it's a healthy, reasonably large one, then it's best left alone, unless you think it is in danger of ending up on a main road. They like eating cat food and a saucer of milk would also be appreciated. They're usually flea-ridden, so getting it into the house is NOT a good idea! Hedgehogs are essentially wild creatures, so the less we tamper with them the better.
See the site I recommend below for more guidance.
Leave it be. It can't be there by accident, can it? Just put it near some shrubbery or under a hedge.
If it isn't native, how did it get there? People don't keep them for pets, as feeding them would be very tedious. I doubt if it escaped from a zoo.
Talk to a biologist about this, if you know one, or any naturalist.
MA as in Massachusetts? They are not native to the US. Here's a link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/hedgehog. I would call animal control. If you ARE in Massachusetts and it IS a hedgehog, it could be somebody's pet.
