Are you familiar with programs like the California Conservation Corp?

If you work for a group like this, what has your experience been like? Have you ever encountered the group at work on the trail?

Answer:
I've seen the CCC at work in Redwood National Park. They're tough and fast! They built and cleared out the space for a 18 foot long foot bridge in one day.

I spent two summers with the Washington Conservation Corps. The second included 45 days fighting the Tri-Pod Complex fire. While I saw some amazing sights, there were some pretty mind and body numbing stretches of 18 hour days of cutting fire line.

Overall my time with the WCC was rewarding, educational and beneficial.
I haven't done the CCC myself but have worked with them on projects. They generally work hard and fast! I am always amazed at the amount of brute labor they can throw at a problem. Often in crews of only two or three people. They all really like what they're doing from the conversations I've had with them.
