Would refilling ink jet cartridges over and over again be green living?

would hewlett-packard and other computer printer companies encourage it?

Answer:
Yes it is a form of recycling and most companies refill used cartridges, including HP. In fact their new cartridges have denser ink so they do not have to be filled as often and they include a mailing bag with fresh cartridges to mail them back when they are empty.
yes. i do it myself. its less materials used and it saves throwing out perfectly useable cartridges. anything that can be re-used/recycled will help with landfills, pollution, costs as well.

i don't know if co.'s would encourage it but they certainly should. they will still be making a profit, people will still need to buy ink from them. there would be less wastes and better for the environment.
no, and no. it just proves you use a lot of expensive copy paper and ink,,, you are probably one of those computer using capitalists too... you are aren't you?
Companies like HP or Lexmark discourage users from refilling their ink cartridges since they lose money or don't make as much. That's the reason why Lexmark used to impose "single use only" ink cartridges meaning, by law, if you do refill these types of cartridges, you could face legal challenges from Lexmark. Im not sure if they still sell these "single use only" but it wouldn't surprise me if they did. I buy ink on eBay since it's cheaper. Some are "expired" by 1 or 2 years but in reality, the ink never really goes bad or goes down in performance. As long as it's new and still in the packaging, it will remain useful for a very long time. Some of the ones I buy are remanufactured but again, they still work wonderfully. Yes, it would be more environmentally friendly if we could all refill and reuse our old ink cartridges, but then big business wouldn't be making big money.

One good thing about all the leftover cartridges I had laying around: A while back, an organization for animals (not quite sure about what) but they would send you a prepaid postage bag where you would donate your old and used ink cartridges to them, I guess to raise money. I stuffed as many as I could and sent them out. I felt good knowing they were going to be useful for others.
Sure, it would HELP. Cartridge companies dont really support it because it cuts into their profit, but that doesn't mean its not the right thing to do. Staples, Office Max, Office Depot make excellent quality refills
