Have we hit the all time stupid thing to do about global warming?
Mrs Edwards here is your sign.
Granted I am not one who is believing that the climate changes we are dealing with are man made.
I am all in favor of conservative, getting off fossil fuels, and seek alternative fuels.
Now I am to believe in that tangerines are a problem.
That is my limit you can take this man made global warming junk and plow it all under to make for a better crop next here for it will make some great plant food.
Answer:
Growing your own. Been there, done that. It takes a whopping large amount of land to produce everything you're going to eat for a year, and a lot of time tending it, preparing it, preserving it, etc. I can't imagine where each resident of New York City is going to find the space needed.
Every generation has had a Chicken Little running around crying "the sky is falling". Remember the nuclear threat and all the personal bomb shelters? How about "The Population Bomb" that said before the end of the 20th century we'd all be starving because of over population. The 1982 alignment of the planets that was going to wreck much of the Earth. The new ice age that we were assured we were entering about 30 years ago. Y2K. The list has one more to add to it and it's called "Global Warming". Of course it won't matter anyway because the Mayan calendar says the world will end in 2012.
What so stupid about encouraging locally grown foods instead of foods that very often have to be shipped from around the world. By making a shift back to more locally grown food, we would see benefits in food safety, economic security, and resource efficiency.
Tangerines aren't hurting anyone, but shipping them to areas that cannot support their growth uses fossil fuels. Something you said you were in favor of reducing.
Global warming maybe true, but buying local tangerines or anything else (consider all the stuff shipped over from China) locally is not the solution. The solar system is experiencing increased solar activity, causing global warming here on earth.
All the pollutants and emissions are but a fraction of the main problem, the sun's increased activity.
"Solar activity has apparently been going upward for a century or more,"
"In what could be the simplest explanation for one component of global warming, a new study shows the Sun's radiation has increased by .05 percent per decade since the late 1970s."
What will Al Gore do if he faced these facts? He can't blame anyone on the planet for this.
Maybe we should fire some rockets full of ice-water at the sun to quench it a couple of degrees.
Anther good idea would be to plant more tangerine trees in our backyards. Mrs. Edwards, (and I do wish for and pray for her good health) or whoever the next first lady or first man will be, can start a tangerine seedling program on a nationwide scale, that is, for the appropriate growing zones.
They won't be satisfied until they drive us back into the stone age.
That's not a stupid idea,it's a great idea.I think it would be great to grow our own food,it would be a lot safer. As for global warming it's not just man made,I believe were just going though a stage the planet has been in before,I am no expert but I read a lot of books on the subject.
(Many blessings)
My dad grows some vegetables but it usually takes a while for it to grow so I dont know
Tangerines aren't the problem, shipping them is.
And avoiding eating imported foods for locally grown is next to impossible if you want any selection in life. I try my best to be green and buy locally but I bought grape juice in the grocery store once (biggest grape producing region in Canada 40km away) the label said "Bottled in Canada" so what was I to think. After I got it home and turned it around I saw the "Product of South Africa" on the label ... welll CRAP!
But you should definitely EXPECT to see a price increase in food due to shipping costs going up. That isn't the only thing pushing up prices.

man has been changing the climate all over the world
MAN MADE CLIMATIC CHANGES
maybe we cannot save the world from global warming ,but we still need our Environment to survive whilst we are still here .
Everybody is so desperate to absolve humanity from blame ,and this is not possible
Global warming is one thing ,and for many people it seems to be the knight on a white horse that says
dont worry it is not your fault you can do nothing about it ,
keep on trucking ,poluting, deforesting, desertifying, keep killing the animals ,keep burning the woods
Man is responsible for much climate change it cannot be whitewashed by Global warming
ONCE UPON A TIME
In a jungle in Oaxaca I discussed with the Natives the mountain before us ,Mostly deforrested ,scarred by landslides and dotted with madly steep corn patches (which only produced for 3 years ),and devoid of clouds.
They all agreed that the days were hotter ,there was less rain ,And the river was dry part of the year.
When they were boys ,the river was bigger and ran all year around, the mountain was always covered in clouds with daily rains .And the days were more bearable .
Their actions in the desperate plight to feed their enormous families of avarage 12 kids per family ,often much more ,had destroyed their home ground with indisputable climate changes.
They had changed their climate. This happens all over Mexico
------------------------------...
In Africa I have seen lush wooded lands change into dessert within a few years by large invading comunities ,who devoured the trees for building and firewood ending up in a dessert with out water
and with a hot sun under which no new plantation was possible. The people had changed their climate, this happens all over Africa.
In Northern china two mayor dessert are merging and 900 vilages are buried under the dust ,thousands of refugee farmers who had changed their climate ,by intensive agressive agriculture are fleeing for their lives,
This happens all over the world .it happened in the 20ties in the USA has everybody forgotton that ,was this not a climate change ?
Granted the climatic changes are local ,but effects neighboring areas ,there is less rainfall, rivers dry up ,
Collectively because there is so much of it all over the world ,the global precipitation is affected and so is the climate .
And who did it ?
the people are changing the climate
------------------------------...
Like Ghengas Kahn changed the climate when he burned all the forests and filled the wells with sand ,Like the Phoenicians changed the climate of lebanon to build the trading fleet .Like the Spanish climate was changed by using their forest to build the Armada ,
So are we today changing the climate by massive deforestation, agressive corporate farming (using chemicals),overgrazing ,overpumping deep subteranean waters ,ignorence and impartiality
Global warming.carbon emisions ,polution ,sunspots ,solar flares, hairsprays , Al Gore, and skeptics are the rasberries on top
and read up what America is planning with the insane master plan for Ethanol production
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
Seems as if America is trying to compete with Global warming
I wonder who will win.?
but who ever it is ,
the rest of the world looses.
we are in trouble, and if we can do something that will make it less ,we should try to do it .
