Do you believe in global warming?

And, why or why not?

Answer:
You ask do I beleive in globel warming as if you were asking whether I believe in Santa Claus, the tooth fairy or the easter bunny.

What is important is that I have read enough of the scientific literature to convince me that we are experiencing Global Warming.

Unfortunately the media is more entertainment focused than they are focused on accuracy.

Also the reporters rarely have adequate scientific training. This results in a great deal of reporting that is factually not correct.

The poor quality of the media reporting is one of the reasons for skepticism omong the members of the public.

The members of the public see the obvious mistakes and falsehoods in the media reporting and they incorrectly assume that the science is equally faulty.

Unfortunately the big question is what should we do about global warming.

At his concert Al gore said the wqe must reduce or carbon dioxide output by 90%.

Now how are we going to do that?

We would have to stop heating our homes.

We couldn't even take the bus to work. Even the bus uses too much fuel to get those kinds of cuts.

We have a problem that we cannot solve.

It appears that every huckster in the world is trying to make a buck off of this. It doesn't mater to them whether we stop global warming or not as long as they make some bucks off of us.
Do I beleive it - yes.

Why - I've spent many years studying and researching it form all angles. I've seen the evidence first hand from around the world. When you understand what's happening and have witnessed the effects first hand it's difficult to deny.
Well the world is getting warmer. So what's not to believe.

People who say the world isn't getting warmer are liars, because the facts disagree with their agenda.

However what is at dispute amongst honest scientists is not that the world is getting warmer, but why and the fashion in which it will continue.

The greenhouse effect is well established fact. Without it we would be living on a ball of ice. The degree to which it is regulated by other effects is horribly complex and there's lots more to learn.

However the current scientific consensus on the reasons why the world is getting warmer and its causes do not make happy reading. To disagree with it just because it doesn't fit with your relgious or economic agenda is to play poker with the future of humanity.
Is the planet warming up, yes, that is obvious. Is the sole cause of this from humans and what we burn for energy, no, we are not solely responsible. Could we do more to lessen the impact of what we are doing, yes we could, but will we do so, most likely not based on 40 years of observation.
There are alternatives to the production of energy that would stop, or severely reduce the use of fuels. We would, however, change our standard point of view on such things as conservation of energy and matter. Governments, and energy suppliers just are not willing to do that for control, and monetary reasons. They are well aware of what is going on, but I believe that the choice is made to retain the way we do things as they are because to make changes could mean a reduction is profits, as well as control of the people, which they simply are not willing to give up.
Yes definantely. There is scientific proof, and the more we burn fossil fuels the worse it will get. This combined with overpopulation thanks to mainly the chinese will make things even worse. I think basically we will kill the earth within 500 years guaranteed. However i wont care il be dead.
Good answer anotherbsdparent, You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Yes it gets warmer, just like it once was much colder. The real question is, "Is it supposed to to that?" No one really knows. Many have "facts" that are supported by a bias use of information available. And unfortunately media and other extreme groups have capitalized on this so they manufacture more "facts" to support a belief they all ready had. Global warming is a fact, it is a fact that the earth warms itself by many means, including "green house gases". The question asked was not if man is to blame for global warming. So the question just implies the popular idea of extremest groups like CNN or FOX news, and other groups who would force their beliefs on you.
No. The Earth is naturally balanced. It is getting hotter in the northren hemisphere but colder in the south. It is now about 60 F in mexico.
I do believe in global warming and although i'm kinda ashamed of saying this, i usually ignore anything about it just like many people do mainly because global warming takes time to take effect at least that is what i believe
It has been scientifically proven that the Earth is getting warmer. How can anyone disagree?

**federalistcapers, I sure would like to see the scientific dataset you used to conclude that the Earth is on a cooling cycle. All the datasets I have seen show that it is warming.
the world has been on a COOLING CYCLE SINCE 1998!! WHERE DO YOU PEOPLE GET OFF? GAWD!
Yes I do. It's a matter of principal with me. I tend to take whichever side the evidence supports. An annoying trait, I know, but one that almost invariably finds me on the side supported by scientists. So it's never a problem.

Edit: And FedCapers, I have constructed a little graph for people just like yourself, who erroneously believe that the planet is experiencing a cooling trend.

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k111/e...

The line in blue is a graph of temperature data from 1985 to present. The red line is a five year moving average of the same data, showing the warming trend scientists talk about (I could have smoothed it more, to better show the warming trend. But that would have taken hours and I think it's pretty clear as is). The line in yellow is your plot, showing nothing in particular. As you can clearly see, there has most =definitely= been a steady warming trend. 1998 was just an anomaly, it didn't mark the peak of the warming.
Global Warming Is happening right now and evidence from a plethora of different scientific methods suggests that a) the earths temperature is increasing at a rate faster than it has before and to a level higher than any temp experienced in the last 650 million years and b) that there is a strong link between anthropogenic carbon emissions and this rise in temperature. The evidence is credible, the models have shown it to be possible and generally accepted although constantly challenged. The fact that no one has been able to change scientific consensus on the matter makes the hypothesis of AGW even more robustly accepted.
Yes I do believe it, all those scientists can't be wrong and the effects of it are all around us
YES!
Its not a question of "belief" like a political ideology or religious faith.

Global warming--and its human causes--are facts, thourughly established. Not opinions you "believe" or not.
DO I BELIEVE IN GLOBAL WARMING?

Oh yes absolutely, there is proof that it comes and goes in cycles.
There is certainly global warming going on but to what extend or degree, that one probably no one knows exactly.

It is a true fact that carbon dioxide is warmning the global. Forests are being cut down, More buildings and factories are coming up. No control of emmisions from transports and manufacturing industries. Wastes are increasing in propotionate to the population and many more. These are some of the main factors of global warming. How can it really be stopped?

I am a certified diver but I'm not one of those hardcore diver. I go 3 to 5 dive trips a year. This place that I used to love, which I have went back for the past 3 times, have changed so much. In term of the corals, marine life, water lever and temperature. It keeps changing everytime and the situation is just getting from bad to worse. Although there is no real evidence to support my experience (it could be due to other irresponsible divers) but I'm sure the global warming has played a part in damaging the underwater life.
Most will agree that global warming is happening, however, the important question should be , does man have a great enough impact to cause it; ---and does he have a great enough impact to stop it.
There seems to be little agreement on the answer to these questions. "Belief" wont suffice, we must know before we can proceed.
yes because i see it all around us: remember when all Seattle, WA use to do is rain and it got over 100degrees on summer? and why the oceans are rising...it's obvious
I don't believe in global warming to be used as a political tool. We've created an unnecessary panic that has been blown out of proportion. There is no proof that by having man "reduce his carbon footprint" will have any significant impact on the planet. This topic is 100% purely political and it's not about saving the planet. It's about pursuing a certain political agenda, mainly a war on capitalism.
No, I still do not buy that the contribution of man made C02 is the sole driving force behind climate change. Short of using the 'earth goes through natural environmental changes' there is further evidence to discount man made climate change.

I use the term 'man made' for a reason, I do believe that climate change is occuring, the world will heat up, that is undoubtable. What is debatable is that man is behind it. 400 years ago we had the mini ice age, several hundred years before, a mass heating up of the earth's surface. Ice ages were caused by natural changes in the earth's environental make up, as were periods of heat.

The most telling piece of evidence to discount global warming is the fact that other planets are also heating up. Even pluto's atmospheric condition and global temperature is heating up. Mars' ice caps to the north and south have no dwindled significantly. Compares pictures of mars 30 years ago to today and you can see a significant change. Am I being made to believe that man-made Co2 not only heats up our planet but others in the solar system to?! It is the Sun's natural increase in temperature that is driving climate change.
More important than whether or not we believe in global warming .. is doing something to stop it...whether global warming exists or not has not yet been proved...but it has been proved that we will have a global catastrophe at hand if we don't do something to stop it.

This clip really influenced my mindset.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zorv8wwia...
its happening.
it's a fact.
it's not if you believe in it or not.
but if you choose to accept it or not.
and some ppl are just extraordinarily ignorant.

soo, answering your question, that would be a 'yes'.
yes i believe the planet is warming due to human acton/ inaction, i also believe i could get onion soup w/ cheese on it in France, some things are just given

global warming? at this point it's not so much does it exist, but can we fix it, should we fix it, is there a moral mandate fir every one to fix it, or just an ethical one for some people
yes, because the weather is hotter and will get hotter every year and well turn into a crisp
Hi the answer to that question is yes and no, Our weather men in the UK told us last year, that this year would be the hottest summer on record (because last year was really hot so naturally this year would be hotter) its done nothing but rain. In the 1970's we had two or three really cold winters and the weather men told us that we were heading for the next ice age. so I ask you can you trust the predictions of the weather men and their computer models. I don't. I do recycle and I don't leave anything on stand by, oh and i wash at 30 degrees. Because although I don't believe everything I'm told you have to do something and I live 28 mile round trip from my work so I ain't giving up my car x x x
