Can I dump electronics in the recycling bin?
Answer:
I doubt that the recycling bin is set up for electronic equipment.
Check with the company that picks up your recyclables.
depending on the city codes u live in, u probably can, but before u do, u might think about selling them to some one who likes repairing those type items, or have a yard sale ane let someone else worry about trashing them.
Yeah, I totally understand that having to go to the trouble to take electronics or mechanical parts somewhere to center to properly dispose of them is a hassle. Yet there are people who will come by and retrieve all of your of electronics that are in need to recycle. I have personally call 1-800-GOT-JUNK, they usually don't charge for small items or if its a computer, I know personally that DELL Computers has GREEN RECYCLING centers, they take any computers, monitors, keyboards and whatnot. Also, thrift stores , such as GoodWill will be more than happy to take those electronics and if they can't be used, they will recycle the parts and you can write the donation off on your taxes!!
Most cities will not let you recycle electronics. Save up for awhile then drive to the center...save energy that way
Someone will want that stuff because it is full of cadmium, gold, mercury, etc., along with other precious metals including no so precious like lead.
P.S. That's one of the problems with America, doing the right thing is such a hassle.
No, you can't ~ if the glass in the monitors break, you will have contaminated the entire bin and everything has to be thrown out.there's also the matter of toxic gases, mercury, and other hazardous contents that are found in electronics.
All electronics really need to be disposed of at a Hazardous Waste Collection site~ I know it's a hassle, but it's the right thing to do.
NO! NO! NO!
I work at a recycling depot and I cannot believe all the crap people think they can throw in their blue bins! I spend a 1/4 of my day pulling garbage out of the recylcing bins. If you want to recycle your electronics you will have to find out if and where your drop off location is. Read the literature your municipality has sent you and get freaking clue!!
There are places that refurbish those things, especially computers and cell phones, and donate them to worthy causes like schools and women's shelters. Ask your local DHS and they could set you up with an organization. It may too much of a hassle, but think of what all the poisons leaking out of that stuff could do to wild animals or even someone's pet.
No, best to take them back to the manufacturer or the store where you bought them because they have special recycling things just for tech waste.
The thing with electronics is that metals can weep into the soil and water, and so can the batteries that are used in many electronics. It really is much better to dispose of them properly, because it is very hazardous to just throw them out.
It is understandable that it is inconvenient. Just wait until you have a whole box full, and then ride the bus out to wherever the place is... that will save you time and will save some energy too. Or you could have a "dump your e-trash" day at your local hall/school/church where everyone in the community brings their electronic waste and then one person just takes a pickup truck full out to the place so that the time, trip, and fuel is saved.
No, it is wrong and potentially illegal to dump your electronics in the bin. Electronics are filled with all sorts of heavy metals and other toxins that can leak into the water you drink if you send them to the landfill.
Dell will take any Dell hardware back for free. Just package it up, and make arrangements to have it picked up at your house from their site. HP has a similar plan, for a small fee, and will take hardware from any manufacturer.
Goodwill and other charities will typically not take your old computer hardware, so these recycling opportunities are your best bet.
Cell phones, rechargeable batteries, and ink-jet cartridges can be recycled at your local Best Buy and they claim to have recycling services to deal with your other electronics, although if you ask most employees about it, they will look at you as if you are from Mars. Persist until you find a manager who knows what they're talking about.
Are you resident in the UK?
If so if you have any electronic or household appliances you can take them to your local Currys store who will recycle them for free.
Shaun
y not donate to a local shelter or the good will?
In most cities world wide there are freecycle sites set up. Go on line to find the one in your area. They exist in order to prevent landfill sites getting filled and people advertise what they want to get rid of and someone answers (usually) and collects it from you...so good and simple. There is never any money involved. You need to describe exactly what you have that you want to be rid of and wait for your e-mail answers to come in. Good luck
I come and pick up most electronics in the longview/kelso area.
No, many people aren't aware that there is a way to properly dispose of your electronics equipment. A lot depends on the area in which you live, start by checking your local chamber of commerce or local agencies for information. Check with your electronics stores to see if they would take your equipment free of charge.
No, you're supposed to dump them in the river
No.
No! They are hazardous waste and need to be recycled as such. Where I live the local trash collector will pick up hazardous waste about 2 X yr. and it must be separate from any other pickup.
