Do you think global warming could be caused from the heat off engines in cars?
Answer:
It's certainly not wholly causing global warning. As a point source for heat pollution though, engines convert fuel to power relatively inefficiently which causes a significant amount of heat in an engine. They put off heat as long as they are running after all. Good question which is true at the micro level, but doesn't scale up well at the global level.
Impossible. Not nearly enough of an effect.
or maybe from the match that I light when I fart.
No. Global warming could not occur from something so insignificant. Some believe that the small amount of CO2 released by humans, maybe 50 parts per million of the atmosphere, may be causing the recent warming. I think it probably isn't. The earth is warming primarily because of the sun and its patterns of transmission of heat, light, and magnetism.
not soley from the heat off cars,
but indirectly it is a contributer because the heat comes from burning fossil fuel releasing lots of pollutants into the atmosphere, including Co2.
Because infernal combustion is less than 30% efficient, due to the laws of thermodynamics, and most of the lost energy goes into heat, including friction, you are using more fuel (creating Co2) in creating waste heat than actually driving.
For interest, this winter after a 20 mile dirve in my Prius there was still snow on the bonnet, an indication of how much more efficient the hybrid is that there is less waste heat.
The heat off of the engines may add to the heat of the atmosphere, however, it contributes to a very small percentage. The emissions of vehicles is what really harms the Earth as of right now.
It's easy to be distracted by minor things in considering global warming.
But scientists have done the calculations and identified the main factors:

The greenhouse gases come mostly from transportation, generating electricity, and running factories. That's where we need to concentrate.
