I want to help the community!?
I want to help the enviroment, because I think doing things like that makes me feel better, not to mention it will look good for college.
What things can I do??
Any suggestions? Or personal expieriences?

There are lots of things you can do. Around here we have several shelters that always need help. Or you can volunteer at a local hospital, or community center.
For your local municipality (city). With my city we have community organized programs for picking up trash around creeks, lakes, rivers and ponds. With these programs you can start and organize your own group (most of the time) or find one near you...
Look up your city online and they should have a community section on the page (most do) or give them a call and find out.
Join some group.. like PETA, UN, Blue cross, WWF, Green peace and so on. or you could just do the basic things to help your environment like reduced usage of electricity, turning off water pipes when not needed, keeping your house clean and taking care of garbage disposal and stuff.
Volunteers any way you can, like feed tha homeless, volunteer at the children home, plant a tree not by yourself but with the volunteering people or volunteer for earth day and pick up trash and just pick up trash around your community.

Um your motives are all wrong. How about because in serving others we realize how we can touch another person and give new meaning to their lives, or because we are not opportunists rather givers. Inanyevent her are some suggestions: Habitat for humanity, Hospices if you have the stomache for it. Hospitals all have volunteer programs. Type in the word GREEN on any search engines and see what possibilities pop up. The best solution is pick one thing get out there and start doing and talk to people and you will find yourself being led to the place where you feel a part of whats happening. Womens shelters, homeless shelters, churches often have programs of outreach and community service. I could go on but if you can't make this work for you than you aren't really interested.
You can adopt a mile of highway and clean that up twice a year. You can just go to different places in your area and take some garbage sacks and pick up garbage. It's really everywhere. (But you won't get recognized for this) You can go to your local old folks home and just hang out with some lonely old people. They love company!
I'm sure you'll get lots of ideas.
I went to my school and asked them to give me a plot of the land to plant baby trees. Then, one of the teachers created a small garden in the back, dedicated to a deceased friend of the school. I helped put that up. Also, you could help clean up trash after football games, and at the park.

Do things on a personal level, if people WANT to help, accept their help, however, do not force it upon those that do not want any part of it.
However, you're already doing it for the wrong reasons. I go to work every day, to pay my bills and take care of my family. I do it, not to feel good about myself, but because it has to be done. There are millions of things you can do to help the environment, however, do it because it should be done-not to make yourself feel better or to look good on a college resume..Otherwise, you will eventually stop doing it.
