Has the climate in Alaska changed as drastically as what we have been hearing on TV?

Answer:
Oh I am so glad you're bringing this up, yes of course the climate in Alaska changes all the time.
In the early 1940's record high temperatures of 39 above were recorded in Fairbanks Alaska during the winter months, just a few years later it was 53 below again. A true sign of global warming, yes indeed.
yes x 10000000000000000
Yes. As you can see from my ID I'am not from there but my wife who knows everything says yes. Oh and she is from a Pacific Island Nation so she MUST know this answer.
the journal of Science had an article in march 2006 that found evidence that the antarctic ice sheet has been retreating by 36 cubic miles a year and not recovering over winter. Similarly recent evidence suggests that there is some loss of mass on the west antarctic ice sheet and and overall reduction in size of the north pole ice sheet both in summer and winter temporal comparisons with scientists suggesting the Greenland ice sheet could be facing an irreversible decline.
Fish populations already under threat from overfishing are now under threat from changing currents and less food given the fact that the ice sheet provides a medium for algal growth which supports the nutrient rich polar food chains and insulates the marine life from harmful UV light and extrema weather/wave action. The entire polar ecosystem is under threat both on the land and in the ocean and despite strong debate over the causation of the ice sheet loss it is conclusive that the warming of the earth is responsible.
yes it is!! Their is nothing to blame but us humans... We have created and invented things that causes Global Warming which leads to extreme weathers and melting of the ice...If this will continue and we do nothing to stop it, we will suffer the consequences of our own doings.
SMACCAS's first link actually said "The Antarctic ice sheet is losing as much as 36 cubic miles of ice a year in a trend that scientists link to global warming, according to a new paper that provides the first evidence that the sheet's total mass is shrinking significantly."

36 cubic miles in Antartica is a LOT less than the Arctic border moving 36 miles a year, which is the way the comment was worded. Is it any wonder that some people are getting hysterical over this?
Nothing bad is happening for Alaskans. a little warming is not a bad thing up north.

The places to worry about are hot countries, with land just barely above sea level.

If Alaskan glaciers melt into the sea, those poor folks could be devestated.

Pray for Bangladesh, and places like that, where the suffering will probably be greatest!
Duh!!
Yes! And more then most have realized.
While the Arctic climate is warming up, land that was hidden is now being exposed, and countries (including USA) are digging out it's mineral content adding more problems to the already stressed environment.
Money talks while the rest gets the shaft.
