Cool in summer and warm in winter?
Answer:
For both seasons, proper insulation is the key. Keep the windows covered and any cracks around the doors sealed. One piece blinds or curtains are the best source of window coverage and thick insulation like R19 or evan R29 in your walls is best. This will also reduce your energy bill by quite a bit. Also the style of roof material is a key as well. Shingled roofs hold in the heat longer than metal roofs. There are coatings you can have applied to a metal roof to make it better insulated and last longer from damaging weather and rust.
trees
Build underground.
Keeping lot of trees around will make the right effect.
Summer---keep the windows covered.
Winter---fireplace...u said nothing about that!
Well if you have the property and money to install it a geothermic heat pump is your answer. Unless you're on the side of a volcano the ground beneath your home is always 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit. A geothermal heat pump system works by sinking pipes down into that soil and running water through them, the water always comes back at a constant temperature of between 50-60 degrees. The system then uses a heat exchanger to either remove heat from the water and transfer it to the air in winter, or the reverse in summer.
A supplemental unit can then be used to to raise or lower the temp if you like it warmer or cooler, but even using these the system is far more energy efficient than traditional systems that utilize 100% oil, gas, or electrical energy.
Geothermal systems aren't cheap to install (though some states do have rebate programs) and they can be land intensive depending on how they're installed. (Depending on whether the ground loop goes straight down or lays out horizontally a set depth underground.) But once installed your home heating/cooling costs should plummet. You usually save back the cost of the installation within a decade.
