If the world stopped recycling plastic.?

When would we run out of the raw materials needed to produce it?

Answer:
A small portion of the crude oil is converted into plastics. That resource will run out when we use up the oil for fuel (gasoline etc), where most of it is used.

Plastics can be processed from any carbon source however it is more expensive than crude oil (but not by a lot considering how cheap plastic is). Once we run out of crude oil we can use coal as a source of the material for plastics, and once the coal runs out we can use plant material.

The other sources (coal or plants) require additional steps to be converted into plastics and that makes it a bit more expensive. Since we still have crude oil, it just makes sense to use what is easiest to make the plastic.
