Wind Turbine Pollution??

As I was campianing for the use of wind turbines in FL (all that coast line and sea breezes), some one said that they pollute the coastal water some how. They couldn't site specifics or even their scorce (besides "the news"). Is it a vibration issue?? Has anyone heard of this?

Answer:
It is a NIMBY (not in my backyard) issue.

It is interesting how the liberals want wind turbines in someone else's backyard but not their own.

Even the Kennedy family, that is senator Ted Kennedy and the other members of the Kennedy family are part of a lawsuit to prevent a wind farm from being established off the coast of Martha's Vineyard where the Kennedy's have one of their family compounds.

There is no pollution issue, that is just a smokescreen for the real issue.
Ask Ted Kennedy. His family campaigned against a wind farm near their compound because it would spoil the view. I guess its okay to be green as long as someone else does the heavy lifting for you.
The wind turbines do not do any pollution beside the dead birds that are stupid enough to fly into them. They are not a reliable source of power, here in Texas at night when u need the power the wind stops.
A wind turbine uses wind power to turn a set of blades which, in turn, move a rotor through a stationary magnetic field, producing electricity. There are no greenhouse gasses and no thermal release to the environment. There is no pollution of the water in which the turbine tower stands. The NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) crew may make claims that the material used for the tower (usually reinforced concrete) will pollute the water. Technically, they are right in that minute amounts will dissolve in the water over time. However, many commercial docks are made of the same material so the comparison is immaterial. Small boats are also needed once in a while to bring technicians to the turbine for maintenance. Boats also release small amounts of pollution as they travel but that is no reason to ban them (or cruise ships or container ships, etc.). Cables are needed to transfer the electricity to the shore. No, that will not electrocute the fish. The tower will have marine life attach to it, the same as happens to every sunken ship. That will encourage other ocean species to migrate to the area and thrive. Sorry, that seems to be the opposite result of something that might be a pollution source. I have not yet covered the big reason. Some people fear that they will actually see the towers and their special views will be marred. That is what happened in Massachusetts where Senator Kennedy objected so much that the Wind Turbine project was canceled. He did not want to see them when he was out in the ocean on his yacht. Since you asked about polluting the water, my comments are limited to towers that are in the water. They would be far enough out so as not to be seen, unless you have gone out on a boat. In a nutshell, you get electricity with minimal bad side effects, other than annoying the NIMBY crowd.
In reality... absolutely none... but the wackos don't really want solutions that don't involve the extermination of most of the human race... with them and their elitist friends in control of the rest...
No one seemed to answer your second part about putting one in your own back yard. If you live in the rural part of the country then yes,(no regulations to ceiling height). you can install a personal wind turbine and make a little cash on the side.
We have a large wind farm in Eastern Wahington that is buying up residences within 5 miles of the farm due to ultra sonic noise.
The problem is not indivudual towers but the large groups.
They are also looking into redesigning the blades to help resolve the problem as it is also a problem in Europe as well.
O.K. I have some experience on looking for effects of wind turbines.(without having a degree yet)

A possible effect is a high pitched sound emitted from the wind against probably the blades usually when not in motion.I found this to be the case when we were looking for the source of the high pitched sound which we wrongly thought to be coming from the local mobile phone mast on a Greek island in the Aegean.
I hope this helps
