I am looking to work for enviornmental awareness in my community?
Answer:
there are national and international organizations that can provide literature and materials for you about how best to proceed. one of the nice things about using information from groups like this is that it adds credibility to your voice: not that you're not credible by yourself, mind you, but that others worldwide are active and interested in these causes. also, it will feel good for you to know that someone 'has your back', so to speak.
i applaud your determination in pursuing this avenue. it's not easy to start from scratch. and if you feel you're in it 'alone' it can be a bit unsettling to say the least. it's good to find a partner, or at least a supporter locally, to help you with logistics, newsletters, printing, and publicity.
have faith: there are people in your community who are 'silently' waiting for someone to act. they WILL come out to assist you. whether it's an adopt a highway program (call your state highway department and ask), a river or creek cleanup, or an educational campaign run out of your own garage, supporters are there just waiting to be mobilized. have you considered starting an urban garden on a public plot of land? ask your local city officials what exactly is required... people will come out to see 'what you're doing, especially those who live nearby.
here are a few links from some organizations that might be helpful... also if there are any local independent bookstores or coffeehouses in your area, they are often like - minded and can at least provide a chance for you to help 'spread the green news'. best wishes and good luck!
tell me this when you leave your classroom do you turn off the lights
I need to know where you are located first.
Send some e-mails to some organizations. They will be glad to help you. Here is a list:
Good work, by the way.

Depends on what type of "environmentalist" you are. Are you supporting reasonable activities that anyone can do and that actually have an IMPACT or are you pushing a far left agenda that has no real basis in fact and that promotes ideas that limit personal freedoms but deliver absolutely NO benefit to the environment. Me, I am all for cleaning up waterways by addressing the real causes of the pollution etc but when loons start fighting against forest management activities such as controlled logging or screaming that no scientist disputes man made global warming when thousands do, I jump off the ship.
