Do you live in one of the greenest cities?
http://cityguides.msn.com/citylife/green...
Answer:
No, but I used to live in #2. Berkeley rules!
Pretty good that the Bay Area has 2 of the top 10 (Berkeley and SF).
sorta
It'z all about SF!!
Wow even NY on the list... Mine is not there, as I live in Canada... Sorry...
But since we have a moutain with a forest right in the middle of the city, I guess we are green too... Also everybody recycles his garbage here, and bicycles are sold like nowhere else in America...
About MSN... Well, they may be ecolo, but other than this, I am pretty sure that they lack corporate conscience...
Green, my butt. I didn't see a single wind generator or solar panel in those pictures. Do all of those cities buy their power out of state?
unfortunately, i don't
and yeah it's okay to post a link here, i think!
Yep, a suburb of Boston
These cities are "green" because of high density living and public transportation. New York has a 0.9 impact index. USA average is 1, anything below 1 consumes less energy than average. Above 1 is means consumes more than average. (I read this study a month ago, can't find source.)
On the contrary, many cities in Texas are above 1 because of all the cars and the higher speed limits highways.
As an architect, I believe the rapid growth of suburbia is destroying the environment faster than plastic bags and incandescent lamps. We can switch to CFLs, solar power, but we can't keep up with suburbia.
I grew up in the city, so I don't know what's the deal about owning a piece of sky. I hope the public would know that buildings that are 5-storey tall or above is a lot more efficient. City living allow less driving, more walking and thus less obesity.
I live in Canada now so it's not on the list, but I live in the "city of gardens". We have downtown and farms within 20 minutes of each other. Recycling program is excellent. I would like to think it's green.
I don't know, and I don't care. What's the definition or criteria of a "Green City" anyway? Is it the city that's run off the most businesses, increased local taxes, etc.? Quite frankly I'm sick of the politically correct term "Green". The phony Environmental movement has ruined a perfectly good color.
Living in a green city is not going to do very much to stop Global Warming.
This is nothing more than a public relations ploy by cities to promote themselves.
I have something much more effective that you can do.
Iranian oil is one of the worst contributors of green house gases and Global Warming.
We have the opportunity to block the export Iranian oil by blockading Iranian ports the way President John Kennedy blockaded Cuba in the 1960's.
the Iranians have said that if they are blocked from exporting oil, they will block other middle eastern countries from exporting oil.
We just need the support of the Senate and Congress.
Call your Senator and Congressperson today. Tell them to support the blockade of Iranian oil.
Together we can make a difference!!!!!!
Yes I Do, I live in Portland. We have one of the most greenest power companies in the US. Wow, go Portland!
ya, Nainital ,a small hillstation in northern India.it still has many virgin green areas.hope everyone is so lucky.
No, but we live pretty green. Maybe living in one of the greenest cities would make a family lax on living green.
