Flex fuel?
Answer:
If the ethanol you burn is made from corn, it's not really worth it. It takes as much energy to produce as it will provide to drive your car, so you might as well skip all the steps that it takes to turn the corn into fuel and burn the petroleum directly. The farmers like the idea of ethanol, though, because it provides an additional market for their corn. The process of making ethanol from sugar cane is more efficient and makes a lot of sense, especially in places like Brazil, where cane is easy to grow and there's lots of land.
look at the fuel in miles per gal that you get
you will get about 20 % less with E85 then you get with reg gas.
plus you will pay about the same price for both.
do you want to pay for a inferior product.
oh by the way they both put out the same amount of CO2.
We own an E85 Flex Fuel Vehicle, Chevy Monte Carlo. The fuel is .15 to .25 less per gal. than regular unleaded fuel. Our gas mileage is the same burning either fuel, and the E85 is a much cleaner burning fuel. There is no noticeable difference in power, and you can tell a big difference in the exhaust fumes.
Driving habits can cause a major difference in the way the different fuels burn.
So in all, at the pump it is well worth it, especially when regular unleaded hit 3.35 per gal, and E85 was 2.75 at the pump. We enjoy the car and it runs great on Ethanol. (Just one catch to this car, it can be a smart alec by letting you know how bad your driving habits are at the dash in front of your face) Drive right and it stays quiet.
Environmenally, it's definitely worth it. Gasoline pumps CO2 into the atmosphere that hasn't seen daylight in millenia. Ethanol uses CO2 that was in the air just last year! It's the difference between recycling and putting more and ever MORE garbage into the environment. Add in the cost at the pump, and there's no good reason to stick with fossil fuels.
