Where's our clean public transit?
Answer:
...And that is the whole problem... politicians don't make money taking bribes from eco-friendly companies (in part because eco-friendly isn't as profitable), When GM gives a million to your campaign and gives you a nice vehicle, you are much less likely to help pass anything that isn't in their favor. cause you want that support next year!
Of course, let's not forget that profit from oil money is a big factor too. Oil brings in so much revenue for investors, that it would be "a shame for some clean air bill to ruin potential profits"
Our own government, as well as a number of businesses, have been trying to hold back cleaner technology for years.
And if you notice... even now that we are starting to get cleaner options through (and take notice ethenol is one of the least effective and dirtiest alternatives out there) that there are few plans to convert government vehicles to safer alternatives, and as far as I have heard, there are NO plans for safer buses or other public transport (too much money to loose!).
We as the taxpayers and voters of our nation have to get vocal and let our politicians learn that if they deal dirty, we wont' re-elect them, that is the only way we can bring change!!
You know what you are right. People can use trains. It is easy, quick and plus you don't have to drive. no work is needed. I think more public tranisits should be created in more american cities and global cities too.
I agree with your point. Going on buses help prevent less pollution in the air, but buses still adds to global warming. Just because people take buses doesn't mean global warming will be prevented. The process of it not occuring is simply prolonged. Where I live, new hybrid buses are being sent out thoughtout the city. Recycled materials from old buses are made to new recycled hybrids buses. I think more areas should follow the footsteps of creating hybrid buses or creating affordable, yet efficient electric cars to prevent global warming, This is easily said; however, getting people to actually take these buses and drive thses cars is the actual difficult part. A lot people won't stop to buy a new car when the one they have is probably just fine. Others don't care about the environment, since global warming might not affect them in their lifetime, but the process of actually creating decent hybrid cars and buses is taking a step foward to a better world rather than sticking with the old and feeling guilty about not taking action.
Well, unfortunately change takes time. I WOULD have to say though, that Colorado seems to be happy to start to head on that bandwagon. They have public transportation in place that uses a more earth friendly fuel, and are talking about light rail options. I think to get things moving along, we're all just going to have to pester the government until they get off their pompus asses and take care of this.
