I want to start a recycling program in my school, what are the steps to start?

We live in a small town, and I don't know how to start. I have some people who are willing to help me out. And I am sure that my principal will allow us to do it. But what do we need to start, and this may sound stupid, but where do we recycle the stuff to? :) lol we don't really recycle around here, but that is the whole point of the program! lol thnx 4 ur help!

Answer:
First you should find a recycle center near your school/town.
Sceond, after you have permission from your school you need recycle containers to set up arond the school. You will need several differnt types--for paper, soda cans, glass/plastic bottles, even ink cartridges. Ask the recycle center if they have these available for your use, you might get them donated or at low-cost.

after these have been set up it is important for people to understand they are exclusivly for recylcing and not for trash! Have them properly labled! If it's possible you should try to have some kind of student assembly where you have someone talk about how and why recycling is important so everyone understands. I know it sounds like a lot, but if people don't understand why or how to recycle they won/t and all your hard work will be for not.

I think it is awesome that you want to implament this plan in your school, you get uber props from me, and don't forget to list this on your college applications, this will make for a great addition to your over accomplishments!

Hope this helped!
well in some towns they have these machines to recycle cans usually found in local supermarkets if your town has one you can use those and they usually give u money not much $0.0 5 per can you can donate whatever u get to the poor... if your town doesn't have one try looking for a recycling center in your town
Well at my school what they did is they asked the princble first and went from there
i know just how you feel

i think you should google seach your towns name with recycle
then you should make a list of the people who are willing to help you and have meetings
pass out some flyers
and if there isnt an recycling program by yourself or talk to the city council about starting one
and remember We were born to succeed, not to fail.
google:
[your county] [your state] "recycling center"
Being very new to this facility, I'm not sure where you're from, but can make a suggestion relevant to my area of UK. I am a teacher in Milton Keynes and there is a scheme here operated by the council that schools can participate in. First get the go ahead from your principal - there is the incentive of financial gain for the school if the level of recycling reduces the number of containers of landfill rubbish produced. Your next step would then be to contact the relevant department of the local council who will set everything up including promotion via an assembly, if your area is like mine. Hope this gives you some help - good luck!
1st - You need to buy some of those square plastic crates and begin by putting one in each classroom 2 collect paper (school biggest waste) for recycling. The council will remove it for recycling or you might need to find out where the nearest recycling plant is and convince the site manager to take them down there once a week.

2nd Plastic Bottles - These, of course can be recycled in the same way, but I prefer to use them as mini propagators for plant seedlings. Just cut the bottom off, place over the seedlings and remove when the plants get too big - they also help to prevent slug n snail damage.

3rd - Aluminium cans see step 1.

The important thing is 3 get students involved, you can run competitions between tutor groups for most collected cans etc. Also make students responsible for collecting recycling from each classroom, at my school we have two different students collect each day. It gets them out of lessons for half an hour so they love it!

Anyhoo hope this helps.

Good Luck

Rich B

P.S. Don't be afraid to ring the council for assistance, they have targets for recycling to meet and are normally eager to help.
first talk to a teacher about this. maybe the teacher can talk to your priniciple about a recycling program. good luck.
