Is green living just an issue for the rich, while the poor have to make do with how to survive?

Answer:
The average Joe doesn't even have a clue as to what the heck green living is. For all he knows it could just be another scheme of the government to tax the people even more. And yes, he is more worried about his survival...like where to get the next meal for him and his family. The rich Joe, on the other hand, would probably just go with the flow. He thinks of green living as a trend, a life style of the "in" crowd...and not to be outdone, he would probably adopt green living too.

The serious advocates of green living are still few and far in between. They are not necessarily the rich but more like the people really passionate about saving the environment. Dare I say the educated class?
there are alot of programs for the poor its there choice wether they go or not.

there are shelters meal plans ect.

we cant bulid everyone house for free
The answer is no. Many wealthy people are wealthy because they know how to conserve. We all do our part. Don't be confused by political ads. Green living just means living the most efficiently as feasible and not being wasteful and conserving. Remember, Make it do, use it up, wear it out, repair it before you decide to replace it.
yes
Trying to live economically will inherently be "greener" than the average wasteful lifestyle.

If you buy less stuff at Wal-mart, you will get fewer plastic bags and thus have a smaller ecological impact.

The main place low income people end up creating more pollution is the cheap old junker they drive which hasn't had a tune-up in 12 years. Fix the car (especially now with appx $3 a gallon gas) and you save money plus pollute less.

If you are reasonable about it. You don't have to buy a $35,000 hybrid car to replace that old car in your driveway to reduce how much pollution you create. You just have to think about what will BOTH save money long term AND pollute less.
"Green Living" is something the poor have doing out of necessity for generation upon generations.
Today it means .
Cutting back on your fuel and electric dependency and consumption whenever and however you can do it.
The poor and middle class have always had to as they need to budget in order to survive.
It means recycling .. not just your garbage, but your clothes, household items, etc.
Many use garbage as compost on gardens wheter window sill or backyard type.
Clothing takes fuel to produce. Restyle your clothing, buy at thrift stores. You often find very expensive stylish brand names there.
It means conserving and preserving water, fuels, electricity (takes fuel to make electricity).
Using light efficient bulbs, no more costly than regular bulbs, drying clothes outdoors instead of the dryer, lowering your heat or air conditioning.
Less travel, whether to the store on a vacation.
It's not about buying, building the solar powered, energy efficient house or buying the alternative $25,000 fuel efficient car. It's just common sense. If you're running out of something, What do you do ? You conserve.
Trust me on this.the "rich" are in general buying their new, politically correct toys such as the alternative fuel $25,000 cars, and giving "lip service" to green living. They aren't cutting back on travel, their size of their big GREEN homes, or anything else. I know because I work for many wealthy people. Being poor isn't a curse. It's a challenge and the poor are bred to be resourceful. Surviving on very little is an art we can teach the less fortunate .. the wealthy.
Sadly, green living is an issue that was created by wealthy people and it has become a feel good issue for wealthy people.

For example, wealthy people can go out and buy a new hybrid car and congratulate themselves because they are so good to the environment and the rest of us are so bad.

The wealthy people live in large homes and use far more fossil fuels to heat the home and use far more electricity to light the home than the rest of us use. Then the rich buy carbon credits from Al Gore to make up for their excessive energy use.

The rich then very publicly congratulate themselves for being so good and scold the rest of us for being so bad.

The rich buy expensive solar photovoltaic systems for their homes at $30,000 or more, and very publicly say that they are so wonderful for doing that and the rest of us are so bad for not doing that.

It doesn't make any difference that the solar photovoltaic systems on their rooftops produce very little electricity. The purpose of the solar photovoltaic system on their rooftops is so that they can say they are so much better than the rest of us. It doesn't make any difference to them whether or not the system actually produces any electricity.

The rich then scold the rest of us who are renting apartments for not spending $30,000 to do the same thing, even though we do not have $30,000 to spend.

Also we cannot put solarphotovoltaic systems on our apartments, especially if we are on the ground floor and do not even have access to sunlight to begin with.

The rich people just look down on the rest of us and they look for ways to publicly look down on us and claim their superiority. Green environmentalism is just another way for them to do that.

The rich people claim that they are rich because they are better than the rest of us, however all of the rich people that I have seen merely inherited their money from their parents or rich aunts and uncles or grandparents.

The rich people were born on home plate and think they hit a home run. They now need status symbols to prove to themselves and their friends that they are better than the rest of us. Environmentalism is just one more way for them to spend their money to do that.

What the rich are doing is very similar to what the holier than thou people that you see in some churches often do. You have some cliques of people who claim to be better and holier than the other members of the church.

The same is true with environmentalism. Environmentalism is just a new religion, and the rich are discovering ways to be holier than thou by spending money that they have and you don't have to spend so the rich can easily claim to be holier than thou.

Note to k_adityak k: I noticed that you copied my answer to this question word for word as your answer to this question. Although I am honored that you think that my answer is so good that you chose to copy my answer as your own, you should note that I am the souce for you answer and that you are quoting my work word for word..
The answers being shown here for this question makes me believe that some don't have a clue what 'green' living is and think it is something that was dreamed up recently with the global warming controversy.
An American company made the first biodegradable, organic cleaner in the USA in 1956. This company tried to convince the rest of the world about the detrimental effects of non-biodergradable cleaners. This American company is now leading the way around the world to go 'green.'
For the skeptics, I ask how did rivers and lakes become polluted? It wasn't all from industry.
By stating the poor have to survive. What is that suppose to mean? That they can trash the planet and get away with it? No! Green cleaning will actually save people money. You don't have to be rich or poor to reap the benefits of keeping Mother Earth healthy. If we don't do things right, waterways will become unfit to use or drink from. Water is the key to survival. Poisoning it will poison life on Earth.

I like some of these answers but there is allot more poor people then rich and do the rich really believe that where going to go to a shelter and eat there slop they throw us . No way where going to take there's how would they stop us there's to many poor and growing . Anyway where all in this together we all breath the same air don't we If the rich can afford solar cells and use them then more power to them and thank you for saving a little clean air for me . I'm poor but still trying to do my part . I order broken solar cells off eBay i get them real cheap some times and i put them together .I have been doing it for the last 3 years and now run my entire home off solar .I probably have a little over a thousand into it .

lmao Just don't try to feed me or my kids slop if they get hungry ill be knocking on your door and you better have a plate ready for me or I'm going to tell all the poor starving people you have food LOL
LOL, it all the global warming crap was invented by Europeans to slow down the progress of the USA, cuz if they can't join us, they hate us.

You have all these rich Democrats that live in huge houses, travel in private jets, and drive around in Hummers.
and then they switch cars to pretend they believe in their cause.

the problem is that global warming and green living started off as a political agenda, propaganda. Then people started listening (never seems to listen to the right people!)

Most poor people arent polluting the air, and crap. the only problem our poor people have is that too many are just lazy and dont mind living in a shelter, though of course there are actual active peole with bad luck

if rich people are conserned about living green, first they need to fix themselves before tryng to change a country.
everybody can make an effort to do what they can do, don't litter, plant a tree
That is a possibility, but- at least in this country- we aren't limited by rich and poor. There is a vast population of middle class people that drive big suvs to the beach and leave every light in there house on all the time that could easily make a difference if they were better informed and maybe cared a bit more.
lol not at all if peniless hippies have been doing it since the 60's. I think the poor communities can survive easily as long as they are able to adjust the way they live and have good knowledge on Permaculture practices..

Green living is more of a cultural issue than an economy issue. Native americans have always been very aware of the envirorment and how to protect it. Same with the tribes in Africa.
Poor or rich you either take care of the planet or you just don't care! Money has nothing to do with it. I have seen homeless people not walk 10ft to throw something in a trash can because the ground is more convienent.
Not necessarily. There are some things we can't afford all the time - buying all organic/fair-trade food, living within a couple miles of work, getting a more efficient car, buying all kinds of biodegradable laundry detergent, etc. But there are things even the poor can do to live green - walk as much as possible, change to high-efficiency light bulbs, turn off lights when not using them, keeping heat low in winter and cooling low in summer, taking recyclables to a drop-off bin, etc.

Each person just has to do the best that she can.
no,even poor people can go green, they can do many things like:
1.not through rubbish in the streets.
2.they can join some of centers that help the environment so they can get money and help the environment.
Ask a retiree on a limited income about "green living". We buy less, use less, travel less. We are the greenest generation. If younger generations worried more about the environment and less about ring tones and texting, the planet might have a chance.
