Should the government subsidize energy friendly products??
Anyways, I've heard a lot about Florescant lights and how they consume less energy and last way longer than the regular bulbs. Why isn't the government doing more to get the word out to the public to change the regular bulbs to Fluorescent ones? You will consume less energy and save money on your monthly electric bill.
I think they should subsidize the cost of these bulbs as well as other energy friendly products so consumer will buy them
Come on Government! You need to set a good example for the people!
Answer:
That is not the job of the government. You can buy the bulbs if you want. If they are cost effective they will take over the market soon enough.
i agree.but unfortunately it will never happen with these lobbyist and companies who make $$
It is true that florescent lights save the consumer money on their energy bills. However, when you consider that florescents consume more energy to manufacture and the fixtures most need cost more and consume more energy to manufacture than ordinary fixtures then they become less attractive. Then, for the newer corkscrew type florescents that use regular fixtures there seems to be the growing awareness of a problem of mercury poisoning that can occur if they are disposed of in the trash when they wear out. Thus both the dollar cost and the environmental cost of properly disposing of these new lights detracts from their initial high promise.
why?. If the products are so good why get the government to reach it's hand in my pocket to by something for you? The products should be bought because they are good and useful.
No, why should the government subsidize any product. If it cannot compete in the market place it does not deserve to survive. Government interference with the free market always leads to more problems than it solves.
The government should not subsidize anything, if if can not stand on its own, let it die out.
